    Pro tip for recapping boards

Indeed, if only I had considered this for my Classic II board. :p Great tip Trash80, I'll be sure to use it the next time I do a cap job on a motherboard. ;)

    Finally, an Intel

Ooo, congrats Bunsen! :D I can't wait to finally get my hands on an Intel Mac. (Desktop or Laptop.) But I'll probably just end up spending my money on some machine I'll setup for Dual booting Windows 7 and Linux. :p Enjoy your new Mac. ;)

Project: Program on a Classic II

According to EveryMac.com, the Performa 475 can only use 7.1P3-7.5.1, 7.5.3-8.1. So I'm afraid 6.0.8/L is too old for your Mac. To write disk images on Windows machines, I use RawWrite for Windows, works great for me. Once the image is written to a disk, just put it in and boot up from it. (If...

My worst nightmare has come true

Yeah, I ended up lifting about 4 pads trying to do my Classic II. (Which I later read online was notorious for weak pads.) I've managed to put three of them in a bag, and lost the forth. When I have the funds I plan to have someone else to (hopefully) fix the pads and put on the new caps. It...

    Replacing Classic II ROMs

Guess I'd have to remove them and take a look.

    Replacing Classic II ROMs

If your interested I could sell you my Classic II motherboard, it had been working up until the capacitors finally gave out, (if you look at it long enough it kinda resembles bomberman!) Then I lifted a couple solder pads in attempting to fix it. >.< It had been working just fine before...

    Writing a programming tutorial

Thanks chuzzum, terrific resource there! :D I will definitely use it this summer, will try to think up some topic ideas too. ;) Oooo, Git for Mac OS 9? I was just thinking the other day how great that would be. Please do keep us up to date on your progress. 8-)

Localtalk - Ethernet bridge help needed

There are certain versions of Netatalk where appletalk was broke: http://68kmla.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16102&p=168652&hilit=netatalk#p168612

Kaleidoscope Scheme to Appearance Theme Conversion

Wow, this is brilliant progress you're making. :) Though I've noticed that the UI elements (tab and stuff) look normal in the new Onyx pic. Was that from having Kaleidoscope on by accident maybe? Anyway, great work Dennis. :D I should go through my MacAddict CDs and find that Scheme...

Run Mac OS 9 on a PM 6100?

Probably safe to say 136MB is the Unofficial Ceiling. (2x64MB + 8MB) As I can't imagine it being able to hold 2 sticks of 128MB... (Did they even make 128MB 72pin RAM?)

Run Mac OS 9 on a PM 6100?

I've been running Mac OS 9.0.4 and 9.1 smoothly on my PM6100 for years, up until the L2 cache on my G3 upgrade card stopped working. It still runs somewhat faster than the 66Mhz CPU, but boy did that 1MB cache make it fly. (Compare that to it's original 256k or a PII's 512k!) I'm also fortunate...

    Text Adventure

Hey that's neat! By the time I was born, Mac OS had already been around for about 7 years. So I never really played any text adventure games. That doesn't mean I don't like them, I just never learned to love them. ;) I'd buy it and give it a try, but sadly I don't have an Intel Mac. Still, I...

    Frugalware Dropping PPC

I've been busy with college, so I haven't touched it since like, last summer. I'm hoping to try to get things going with it this summer. As I've mentioned here and there on the forums, when I do start it up again it's not going to be based of PuppyLinux, even though they've been making builds...

Can't Install Linux on Quicksilver G4

Well what I did for my Sawtooth was boot the Live CD, copy the config file it generated in RAM onto a flash drive. Then copied it in place on my Frugalware 1.3 partition. The Frugalware bootscreen looked like it was in 16 colors but other than that the desktop worked fine. (A little slow...

Can't Install Linux on Quicksilver G4

I have had trouble with Xorg generating a working config with these older card. The best luck I've had with my Sawtooth's original ATI card was the Ubuntu 6.06 PPC Live CD. Whatever version of Xorg it used seemed to do a better job of making working configs. Since you've got your machine booting...

    Frugalware Dropping PPC

http://frugalware.org/news/229 This is quiet sad, I have Frugalware 1.3 on my PowerMac G4 sawtooth, (need to upgrade to current.) It's a pretty nice distro. I'm not sure what it would take or if I have the means hardware/skill wise, but I'd like to help them out if possible. Like, is it...

Can't Install Linux on Quicksilver G4

I've been successfully able to use Ubuntu 6.06, Finnix, Frugalware, and Slackintosh 11 on my Sawtooth G4. It's been a little while since I've messed with Linux, or Linux on PPC. The only thing I can think of that would cause problems is that the Linux kernel is missing drivers for specific...

Are these external monitor ports on this LC 575?

I would very much say yes. When my dad bought a large lot of LC550/575/580s from our elementary school when they were cleaning out storage, a couple of them had an adapter that was almost exactly like the one in the picture. Although I do not recall any of them having VGA-15 on them as well.

    6100 with G3 *and* Nubus

Yeah, my 6100 went wonk-co on me a while back. Putting in the original cache back in did the trick for me.
