Best way to archive vintage Mac floppies & CD's to images

Another success with a .toast image (Microsoft Office 98).  Opened it using Toast Titanium 18 on Catalina and burned it to a CD, then was able to use the CD to install on a Mac Mini G4 running 9.2.2.  I'm glad Toast still allows for backwards compatibility.

    scsi2sd-util not finding my device

You can download older versions of the utility ... might be worth trying one of them: http://www.codesrc.com/files/scsi2sd/ Do you have another SCSI2SD device that you can verify that you are able to see ANY device through Windows or Linux? I've had a lot of issues with my V5.0b (red) devices...

    RetroBridgeBBS

Pretty awesome idea @equant  It makes perfect sense for helping to bootstrap vintage Macs where no networking is available, or where the networking isn't set up yet.  Can you tell me more about the serial port requirements?  Can this be made to work over USB or does it need strictly need an...

    QEMU 9.2.2 on OSX

I just tried -usbdevice tablet and -device usb-tablet and neither worked, sadly.  The most cursor was just frozen, although it did respond at first while booting and then part way through the boot process, froze.

    WebOne browser proxy

Anyone heard of the WebOne proxy server for older browsers, started last year? https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=67165 https://github.com/atauenis/webone Seems promising, although at the moment I don't think it does much more than help with the https problem, which, arguably, is one of...

    QEMU 9.2.2 on OSX

Ok, adding -device usb-mouse seems to have helped.  Or perhaps it is my imagination.  But putting it into full screen mode with zoom to fit makes the problem go away for sure.

    QEMU 9.2.2 on OSX

Topic is a bit old but ... I got an install of OS9.2.2 on the qemu-screamer branch going today.  I don't mind the speed overall ... feels a bit more like a real Mac of the day versus SheepShaver that starts up so damn fast it doesn't feel real.   The thing that bothers me though is the mouse. ...

Software versions for the various OS versions, and canned hard drive images

Software versions I've almost exclusively just used what was installed on whatever systems I've gotten over the years, meaning, rather than start from scratch, I just have various configurations archived that came on hard drives I got with different systems, and I clone them for additional...

    Regressing to an earlier OS?

@Gorgonops have you tried the tap interface for QEMU?  I've got a lovely install I just did with slirp networking in os 9.2.2 but can't access my a2server Appletalk server.  Doh!  That's kinda how I was hoping to get software onto the fresh install.  FTP works still but Appletalk would be easier.

    PowerBook 550c SCSI2SD internal with SCSI2SD external

I had issues like this with my SE/30; it seems like there are some strange cases where the right thing is not intuitive.  In the case of my SE/30, if I apply power to the SCSI2SD external board, I get the situation you have.  Remove the power and it works fine.  Not sure what that is all about. ...

Best way to archive vintage Mac floppies & CD's to images

No, but the creator has stated that he plans to implement that in the future.  I was wrong when I wrote that above, or just hopeful.  The advantage is that you can do it on a modern Mac, and you can do flux images of the drives, which may be useful in the future.  They may be particular useful...

    PowerBook 520c Score!

I have a 540c with a SCSI2SD, max RAM, and an AAUI adapter.  I have it as dual boot with 7.6 and 8.1.  I like it because it is the fastest 040 PowerBook you can get (except the 550c with the FPU, but whatever, not looking to pay unicorn prices for that).  Keyboard isn't bad either.  One way to...

    8 Pin MiniDIN to USB?

Hmm.  I used an FTDI cable a few years back for talking to the serial port on an IoT device we were building.  From what I know, that allows USB to talk to TTL interfaces. I suspect the difficulty is not in the physical connection but the AppleTalk stack; I don't think modern macOS supports a...

SE/30 won't keep time and mouse settings

I have an SE/30 with a recapped motherboard.  I've got a new PRAM battery in it and it remains plugged into power.  And yet it keeps losing the date / time setting, and the mouse scroll speed setting (i.e. defaults to none of them selected). Anyone have any ideas?
