Yes @JDW I'm afraid my Turbo040 is the old one, just as @Bolle says. I won't be able to test whether I have 100% definitely fried my bored for a couple of months but I'm fairly sure I have :/
If there's anything I can do to help with Epic Blunders or accelerator stuff though I'm willing to...
So I just added the jumper wire onto my accelerator adapter - it's the ProtoCache 1.1 by @Bolle
Took just a few minutes and I'm very pleased with the HUGE performance difference it has made now that the cache is being used properly.
Thank you everyone for figuring this out and sharing how...
I'm going to carry out this adaptation to the ProtoCache 1.1 adapter I got from @Bolle. I'll report back, but assume it should all go fine (as long as I have better luck than with my recent Epic Blunder with Turbo 040 card)
I second this! Very useful and clear documentation of your method. Pretty much exactly the same as mine, but admittedly more rigourous.
Also I just want to mention that I use the twist method used by @Bolle too and also want to make it very clear how important it is to press down on the caps...
I don't have a TwinSpark adapter, mine is one of the ones that @Bolle kindly made and sold a couple of years ago. But yes, I've confirmed it is undamaged. Phew!
I hope so too! Turns out you and I have different generations of Turbo 040 so the fixes (if hopefully figured out) will probably be...
@Bolle @JDW I have re-tested (with a less sleep-deprived brain) with my Turbo 030 and all is fine with the ProtoCache card :-) So at least I didn't screw *everything* up!
James, I know you know *a lot* more about electronics than I, so I think I've got an even smaller chance than you of...
@JDW I just did the exact same Epic Blunder, close to one year after you :(
Did you ever figure out a fix or find an easy way to test where the issue lay?
(One last note - it's not clear to me if I fried the Turbo 040 card or the adaptor card - my Turbo 030 card now won't work either, so...
Hi @SE30_Neal!
The screen on one of my SE/30s can have a 'wobble' now and again... I'm assuming it means an analogue board recap for me too. It's not top of my priority list though - too many projects at once. I will however try and get to replacing UE8 on my other SE/30 ASAP. Luckily I have a...
Nice! I just got a boxed Apple IIe card with all the manuals, software, cables etc so this will be useful when I try it out (I'm also not an Apple II guy but curious)
Very impressive! It's a shame there isn't a colour to more closely match the original grey. I'm lucky enough to have a set of these but I'm sure lots of people will be pleased with them.
@Bolle @hfrazier cheers for the tips - I am such a novice at soldering, I didn't know about the drag technique before. I've watched a few youtube videos and looks like something I could manage so I'll order some replacement ICs soon
@techknight is the only way to replace/fix UE8 with a hot gun for removing the chip, and is it possible to get replacements?
Ive never done IC de-/re-soldering, and I assume my basic soldering set up wouldn't be up to the job.
