    MacToTheFuture SE/30 10/100 Ethernet card

Yeah this is just our first prototype. The flat flex may go, it’ll have to twist a bit when the jack board is mounted to the rear of the chassis. Its quite narrow though, so maybe not too bad.

    MacToTheFuture SE/30 10/100 Ethernet card

Yes the jumper is to change the slot address. We haven’t planned for a passthrough at the moment. It may make the board routing harder. We had to byteswap the data bus for the LAN9218 chip so we’d probably have to add another layer to forward the signals to a passthru slot. The boards...

    MacToTheFuture SE/30 10/100 Ethernet card

The first boards have arrived, and my board wizard friend Mark, who designed it, has assembled the first prototype! We’ll likely simplify the board further. No need for a socketed EPROM if we can program the firmware via the computer, for example, allowing us to use a smaller SMD EPROM. He is...

    Mac SE/SE/30 Ethernet Card Recreation

I have been considering Wifi, but no designs yet. There are loads of Wifi modules/chipsets, but most have an SPI interface. That requires more advanced logic to interface with the 68k bus, compared to the LAN9218 which basically just needs wired up. Small FPGAs are pretty cheap these days. I'm...

    Mac SE/SE/30 Ethernet Card Recreation

With the help of my friend Mark from work, who has done the board design & layout, I've started work on a modern replacement 030 PDS Ethernet card based on the Microchip LAN9218. I'm working on writing the driver. There is already a LAN92xx-series driver in the Linux kernel, so we've got...

    Mac SE/SE/30 Ethernet Card Recreation

I would be very interested in collaborating on this. I have been wondering exactly the same thing over the last couple of weeks. I recently acquired another SE/30 which I have recapped and it's running great, but I don't have working Ethernet yet. I have a Technology Works SE/30 PDS Ethernet...

    RaSCSI Development Thread

Here it is. This compiles some assembly code to run on the VideoCore QPUs and sends it to the VideoCore: https://github.com/TWilmer/rpi_fast_bitbang It's based on this blinker01 code, but it's not very useful because it replaces the standard bootcode.bin, so the Raspberry Pi won't boot Linux...

    RaSCSI Development Thread

Here are some benchmarks on Raspberry Pi GPIO performance using DMA: https://github.com/hzeller/rpi-gpio-dma-demo I read recently of another project running code on the VideoCore to do GPIO, which would allow you to have a separate microcontroller completely dedicated to servicing GPIO. I...

Connecting old Macintosh to the net using serial

Hey mactjaap, Great stuff, I dropped by your old Mac's web server to say hello :-) Cheers James

Connecting old Macintosh to the net using serial

I'm sure I'm missing some other steps from the Raspberry Pi side, specifically enabling IPv4 packet forwarding, and setting up iptables rules to forward the traffic from the ppp0 interface. I should write up my notes properly.

A couple of action shots, with MacWeb 2.0 connected to the nginx server running on the Raspberry Pi

Connecting old Macintosh to the net using serial

Hi TechEdison, I've done this recently for my Macintosh SE too. I'm using a Raspberry Pi as a PPP server over Serial. I've soldered up a 8-pin MiniDin to 9-pin serial cable, then use a USB-Serial adapter to plug into the Raspberry Pi. Ideally I'd hook up a 9-pin serial port directly to the...

    Embarking on SE/30 restoration

Just answering my own questions, there's a 68kmla wiki page on cap replacement: <https://wiki.68kmla.org/Capacitor_Replacement>

    Embarking on SE/30 restoration

Cheers olePigeon. Yeah, I'll order some replacements. Is there a re-capping guide as to which ones need replacing? If it's every single one, it'll take a while :)

    Embarking on SE/30 restoration

I picked up an SE/30 off eBay, but it needs some TLC. I got a nice surprise when the unit arrived, as it's got an Ethernet card. It's branded Technology Works, which is a new one on me. As I expected, the battery had leaked and caused some corrosion on the PCB. The entire battery holder...
