*sigh* no longer available. I did try iMovie 3 but it won't install because I have a newer version installed already. I copied it whole off my iBook and it looks OK but when I choose to open a new project it beachballs forever until I force quit. Now I'm looking on eBay for older versions of iLife.

Found it quite by accident. A very small application. You can change the startup image from that tired looking gray apple to something else. Says it's for Tiger or Leopard, don't know if there's an older version or not. Now my Intel iMac starts up with a Happy Mac and my iBook with a Picasso...

I wonder if one of those cheap USB to audio things would work with OS9. My son's PC laptop needs that because the headphone port is toasted. It's USB on one end and headphone/microphone ports on the other.

I am keeping one eye out for a cheap one of those. I also have the 12" iBook G3 600 and I really like it. I got it to use when traveling. But I'd like to get the G4 because, well, it's better! Small, light, runs Leopard and Skype with video, better Airport. I am glad to see it has a good home.
