    sad day for Q650

I had the same problem trying to install NetBSD on my 575... the Mac-based installer wouldn't recognize anything, but booting the install kernel worked flawlessly. That was after formatting and partitioning with HDSC Setup (patched). I don't know if there's a similar option for A/UX though...

    NetBSD on LC 575

And I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

    RetroChallenge 2009?

Why is it wherever you pop up the conversation quickly gets derailed? I'm just curious... ;-)

How to put space bar on Apple IIe

I'm going from memory, but I think you have to put the metal spring into the bar and then hook it into the keyboard, then push the bar down onto the posts. It's a fiddly job IIRC.

    RetroChallenge 2009?

July it is... I'll start making official noises in June.

    Printing letters typed immediately

ZTerm would be my best guess... though I think you'd have to go line-by-line.

    700 MHz iMac G3s

Is the 700 MHz graphite a DV model? I have a 400 MHz graphite "SE DV" and it runs circles around my 700 MHz all white iMac.

    RetroBBS now available (again)

Don't talk to me about it, I've got my own IP problems... email no worky! I'll send a PM to Tom about it ;-)

    Public gateway to comp.sys.apple2

Certainly more lynx-friendly :) My only quibble would be that it defaults to proportional font... not a big deal, but I think fixed-width would make sense considering all the pinout diagrams and assembly listings etc... and it just looks more awesomely old school ;-) Good job!

    Concerning the editing post policy

I know it's not an exact parallel, but my experience with the RetroChallenge has shown that if you want things to run smoothly someone has to take charge... back in 2006 we had so much debate over the rules that the RetroChallenge never officially happened. In subsequent years it's become quite...

    Edit Posts?

The people have spoken with their apathy... Gob bless democracy! I don't think the 68KMLA could be accused of being anti-competitive, so really that's just not relevant. Besides, Jag's House is still going strong... For the record, if the rules do change to allow perpetual editing I'm going to...

    Edit Posts?

The problem with that is it's more work for the mods (potentially a lot more) and is open to abuse or the appearance of abuse. Personally I don't see the problem with posting corrections/amendments after the fact... works just fine on usenet. Probably the best argument in favour of the status...

...and it seems to work just fine that way.

    super serial card

Sometimes, if it's just a dirty switch you can fix it by "exercising" it.

    super serial card

Does the enhanced IIe work normally otherwise? Have you tried any other expansion cards in it?

    What exactly is this?

Looks like a shadow to me... I think the Mac is lit pretty much from above, resulting in a shadow/highlight at the bottom of the bezel. But I've been wrong before...

    ProTerm

arfink: don't know for sure if this will work, but you might try copying the files to /RAM/ and running it from there (once you have the configuration figured out)... might be a bit snappier and less swappier.

    ProTerm

Things were pretty calm when I got into the Apple II around Y2K, but reading through CSA2 posts from the early '90s you can see there were a lot of personality clashes. These days it's generally a pretty good community with only occasional outbreaks of hostility. Nowhere near as violent as the...

    ProTerm

There's a bit of acrimonious debate over at CSA2 about distributing ProTerm, so I'm not going to post the 5.25" disk images... however, the manual does describe the procedure for creating a 2-sided "flippy" disk from the official release. Page 57. Of course you still need some way to unarchive...
