Certainly fair! Trouble is I either need to ship to UK or to US (folks) and collect - the former a matter of add'l co$t, the latter a matter of 'when'. Please serve the local interest first while I work out my plans for a US visit. If I miss out c'est la vie!
Have you given the pins on the PDS connector a good [IPA] 'scrub'? Of course, don't be too rough, but the above makes me wonder if it might be less-than-perfect electrical contact with the PDS slot? 🤔
What about setting up a DSLR (on tripod?) and just videoing the display connected to the Apple II? Not super sophisticated, but with a zoom lens and rigid setup (and DSLR/lens on manual focus) it could work?
Yes, one of those was the Spectre GCR
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectre_GCR
I have one I bought from new - for the very reason stated - the Atari ST (mine was a STfm boosted to 4Mb) was much cheaper than a real Mac. The 'GCR had the added advantage that thanks to some wizardry, it could...
So... work's a time drain atm, so took me 'til today to do some testing. Here are the results (using HDT 4.5.2) :
Upper left is my ACARD with a 8Gb DoM, lower left is my B&W's onboard IDE targeting a 160Gb rust spinner, on the right, the Adaptec/SIL3112 targeting an old 64Gb SSD I had to hand...
Top two are Rev.A, bottom two Rev.C. I've not looked closely at the chip numbers, what's more obvious are the (c) dates... Top two (c)1997, bottom (c)1998.
Well... that took W A Y longer than planned!
However, I can now confirm that the ROM I posted a pic of is indeed a Rev.A. Bummer. I did, however, pull the ROMs from all my beige G3s and can add the following info to the database... Firstly, a "WRAITH ROM" from one of my G3 MTs ...
Yeah, I've been thinking along these lines for the longer-term. Will let you know how the testing goes. (that said, I expect it will work since I'd previously used a smaller clamp to confirm the instability was down to the splitting connector)
Believe it or not... haven't had a chance to test yet. 😞 Life threw some serious curveballs which put Mac-time on hold for most of May/June. Just getting back to a few projects - including this - that were back-burnered.
Visibly, the repair went well - just need to drop a CPU in and check...
I've NO idea what the chip is on the extreme left end, and the pic is a bit blurry... but those pins near the hole above the "208" look pretty close together...
Worth a good inspection?
I thought there was something familiar about your card...
Not sure how much help it'll be over here across the pond. I also see some buldging on my PLCC socket, but I've not had any issues so leaving it alone.
