    Black MacBook

Sorry for the confusion. I posted in Conquests (Macs we acquired).

    Black MacBook

I got a Black MacBook from my previous job a while back and it's just been sitting collecting dust...until now.  Before I got a MacBook Pro for running my MIDI apps, I was using another black MacBook and I still have it as a backup.  This one I figured I'd use as a parts machine, but it works...

    Apple Logo-Branded Tool

Nope.  That was the first thing I checked.  :(

    Apple Logo-Branded Tool

It reminded me of the Apple logoed stuff I got when I first got hired at the Apple Store. I have a couple black pencils that match I think. Still nifty, IMO.

    Apple Logo-Branded Tool

I found this today and wondered if it was in fact a legitimate Apple-branded item or something some 3rd party company made.  Either way it's headed to my collection. :)

    MacMini1,1 with Core Solo

I have one of these too and have thought about doing the CPU upgrade on it.  Right now it's my backup drive server on my network.  I love all of the USB ports and FireWire port, it makes for a great way to serve up data.  My only complaint is I can't run a recent version of iTunes on it. :-/...

    ThinkPad T42

I still have my T42. Solid machine. Even dual booted it with OS X a few years ago. Ran okay, but was unusable without wifi. I now only use it for my old PIC programmer running XP.

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

It's ALIVE (again)! I was able to solder the sheared off component back onto the bluray's board.  Soooo frickin' teeny!  I'm used to soldering thru-hole stuff.  I threw a random disc in and it recognized it fine.  Since I disassembled the board from the bluray drive, (I read that you can run...

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

Honestly I don't care about playing games or using the optical drive. I just want to get it set up so I can run it as a media server and do Netflix. I have a PS3 slI'm I use for games and movies. Hopefully I can get it working to do just those things.

Well, I guess I'm glad that sale went south on the bluray's circuit board. I didn't know about that board and the main board being married. I'm guessing that's a DVD/bluray region thing.

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

I planned on using it as a media server and running Netflix, etc. There is a replacement bluray drive board on eBay that I was going to buy but the seller is saying it's misplaced now.   The board on my bluray drive had a component shearded off, so I am assuming that's why the drive doesn't...

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

After all of that, I figured I'd update the OS to see if it performed any better. What a nightmare that's turned out to be! Why can't I leave well enough alone?! The install/update goes to about 60% then fails and restarts. It gives me the 8002F14E error code. From what I've read, the...

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

Well lookie what I baked up! This morning I baked the logic board, and after it was done baking, I had to leave it in my oven (off) with the door open for a few hours as I had errands to run. Got home and had a day trip the wife planned. Got home a couple hours ago, put it back together, and...

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

Thanks, it's a CECHG01, 40GB. I downloaded the firmware from here https://support.us.playstation.com and put the file on a flash drive in a PS3/UPDATE folder. Anything else I need to know?

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

Thanks, everyone. The guy that gave it to me didn't seem so tech savvy to me, so I doubt he tried baking it. I figured I'd try it, as I have nothing to lose. It does beep right after I turn it on most of the time, but a few times it has waited a few seconds then beeped. I found this link...

PPC, okay it's a PS3, but technically a PPC, right?

Someone was giving away a fat PS3, in peices, in a box, on CL a while back, and I snagged it.  I just got around to putting it back together and unfortunately I get the dreaded '3 beep' error when I try to turn it on. :(   From what I've read it's pertaining to the HDD.  The HDD i got with it...

    Finally... a Twentieth Anniversary Mac

Yeah, that's the holy grail for me! Nice score! Did you purchase it or get it free? I would think the Sonnet L2 Cache G3 upgrade cards would work well, no? In my 6400 (same motherboard) it really made a difference.

    7100/66

My brother had one of those back when they came out, and it was my first introduction to using a Mac. Great machine, nice score.
