Quadra 650 + ATTO SiliconExpress IV (SEIV) = no worky?

Thanks for the replies guys. A couple of comments: The card was on its own, no other NuBus cards to contend with it. All NuBus slots work fine (with another card, not SCSI though) I'm not trying to boot off the card, just see the drive attached to it. Still booting from the internal device...

Quadra 650 + ATTO SiliconExpress IV (SEIV) = no worky?

Thank you both for the replies. As for the cache question: I don't know. How can I check? Any suggested tools? Thanks

Quadra 650 + ATTO SiliconExpress IV (SEIV) = no worky?

Anybody got this combination working? I know the SiliconExpress IV is working fine, as I plugged it into a PPC Mac (I think it was a 7100? @ 80Mhz) and I was getting a nice 8-9MB/sec sustained rate with a fast SCSI drive off the 68pin port. However, when I put the card in a Quadra 650...

Tolerances for capacitor replacement: electronics query

Hi equill, 0) so you're saying that the alkaline nature of baking power could actually further accelerate the corrosion of copper (since copper, a transition metal, oxidizes more readily in the presence of alkaline materials). Did I understand this correctly? Couple of more questions for you...

Tolerances for capacitor replacement: electronics query

    1) What you say makes most sense indeed. 3) Indeed. 4) How about using baking power with warm water? Any comments on this? As for non-polar detergents, I looked at the labels, but they don't say. 5) No wonder your writs are most elequent (loved the sentence about the asymptotic...

Hahahaha, yeah, I'd rather drink cheap beer! :) Oh well.

Tolerances for capacitor replacement: electronics query

@equill: Man, you're a mad scientist! Thanks for the treatise! Now a few questions, if you don't mind, because chemistry was not my forte: 1) If one leaves the "characteristically-coloured copper salts, hydroxides and carbonates" on the copper, will this further oxidation? (my intuition says...

    Capacitor replacement

@trag: I stand corrected about the "never again". I'm an optimist, what was I thinking!!! :)) )) Also thank you for writing out so clearly what electrolyte does to the boards. That's what I was obviously getting at. BTW, what recommendation would you make for a 5x+ magnifier? @JDW: When I...

Does Mac 512kE front (case) fit perfectly w/ Mac Plus back?

What can I say? I'm a learnin' guy! A neophite in this compact subject matter if ya will... That's an awesome site - the chinese (?!) mac site! Thanks for the link. As for the questions: none on the bottom, rear label is missing, colour does not match perfectly. It seems ~tl was most probably...

Tolerances for capacitor replacement: electronics query

All the advice in this thread is pretty good. I don't have much to add, except for a big WOW on equill's impressive chemistry knowledge. @Equill: would you mind elaborating on what happens when the electrolytic liquids spill onto the motherboard and on traces and are left there for a while...

    Capacitor replacement

OMG, that photo looks like it came from Iraq! (which I may remind the uninitiated is widely considered one of the birthplaces of civilization, but sadly our lunatic leaders have bombed back to the stone age...) Anyways, don't mean to poke old threads, but I can't believe NOBODY mentioned using...

Does Mac 512kE front (case) fit perfectly w/ Mac Plus back?

A! Interesting. Didn't know about the front-back swap thing. That explains it! Thanks for the info. As for the memory, I confused it with the regural 512k and forgot about the SIMM sockets. Thanks for the clear-up.

Does Mac 512kE front (case) fit perfectly w/ Mac Plus back?

I have a bizzare compact Mac: Front says M0001E, but the back has the typical 25pin SCSI port (with the alien pre-standard SCSI symbol on it), and the "About Mac" says it's got 2560KB of RAM, so I assume it's a Mac Plus (without looking inside). Thus my question above... Could this Mac have...

Hard question about Quadra 650 / 800 identification

@Unknown_K: I don't know :( Mine both have square looking heatsinks. Anyone else? @Quadraman: Aha, so it does come with a ROM card... Interesting. Perhaps it patches the Apple ROMs or replaces them so that the overclocking will work stably? Thanks for detailing this complicated...

Hard question about Quadra 650 / 800 identification

Thanks for the replies guys! Interesting arcane knowledge :) @beachycove: Identical, except for the small differences I noted perhaps? @Quadraman: When you say slot, do you mean the 64pin ROM slot? If so, why would an overclocking kit need to be plugged in there!? For sucking in some juice...

Hard question about Quadra 650 / 800 identification

Hi Trag, I'm not so sure, that's why I'm asking. These two sure look identical to me :) As far as I know the 16.7Mhz is doubled to get the CPU speed (there's a chip near by that does the doubling). It's also consistent with hat I've read on various reputable sites (Mr. Schrier's for...

Hard question about Quadra 650 / 800 identification

OK guys, I've spent some hours trying to ID a couple of Quadra boards I have - searching all over the web. Haven't found affirmative answers yet. Main source of information is the following (and the link at the bottom of the same page): http://homepage.mac.com/schrier/wombat.html The...
