Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
If you already have a hot air station, pick up some low temperature solder paste. Clean the pads thoroughly on the board by wiping them with your iron tip covered with solder wick. Squirt a line of paste down each row of pads, drop the chip on, and heat away. The paste will be repelled from the...
Interesting. Mine appears to have no trouble running 7.5.5. The only remaining issue is related to startup, but I'll probably create another thread in the compact mac area to discuss that. Basically on power on, it will show a simasimac screen for the duration of RAM check. When it's done, the...
To answer 2) above, you can drop a full 040 in a Turbo 040i and the FPU will be recognized without issue:
and it performs accordingly:
yet the firmware will still say it is an “i” model:
I am going to order those EPROMs for the heck of it and will answer 3) as well.
For what it's worth I had a couple of bad traces to the SCSI IC on two of mine. I tried running the bodge wires on the bottom of the board like you did there (to keep it neat looking), but while it fixed the issue, the machine was unreliable and would eventually stop working after running for a...
Hello,
I've got a Daystar Turbo 040 (ASIC version) with a "4.01i" firmware (chip is labeled 2984). My SE/30 adapter (courtesy @Bolle) is arriving soon so I'm trying to gather information on my path forward. Right now the Turbo 040 has a 68LC040 in it, but I have a full 040 I'm planning on...
One more that I can confirm needs to be fixed: SCSIN (port SCSI*) is on pin 24 of the GLUE chip, not pin 14:
Original schematic:
EDIT:
One more thing: It would be nice to number VDD and GND pins on the SCSI chip. Per the original schematic it looks like VDD is on 23:
And 3, 42, 36, 12...
I'm trying to troubleshoot a SCSI issue using these schematics. Super helpful so far. One question: /IOR and /IOW lines from UI12 (pins 18 and 19) are connected to ports IOR* and IOW*:
I can't find anything else that connects to IOR*, but suspiciously the GLUE chip UI8 connects to ports IDR*...
UE8 looks pretty rough on both of these. Have you checked continuity between the tops of each pin and another point on the board it connects to? This effort here should be useful in that regard:
I just got a new V6 2020 and put it a newly-recapped SE/30 and it's been pretty erratic. I confirmed SCSI2 mode isn't on, but I'm wondering if leaving the speed setting on auto is an issue. I'll try swapping my 5.1 that works in another SE/30 in and report back.
I ran into this same issue with my first SE/30. It happened 100% of the time with a modded ROM trying to boot 7.5.5. System 6 was fine. Putting the original ROM back in it would boot 7.5.5 okay most of the time. It still sometimes hangs in the welcome to Mac screen which I attribute to some...
I don't have an answer yet, but I am looking on doing this myself so I will document what I do and if I have more luck than you I'll let you know what worked.
I installed the SCSI2SD image of A/UX 3.1.1 discussed in the sticky on my SE/30. I can get it to boot fine with the stock ROM installed, but only 8MB of RAM is detected. If I replace the ROM with a MacSIMM 32-bit clean (IIsi with memcheck disabled patch) ROM, the system reverts to a flashing...
You can add the lido.img file using the exact commands detailed in the page linked by aladds:
dd if=lido.img of=disk.img seek=64 bs=512
Write the SCSI2SD image first, then overwrite the driver with the lido image by running the above command.
I got the sad mac 000000F/000021 error on my...
Update: I got another (working) analog board/PSU to help troubleshoot. This was an Astec PSU and it’s -12V was also around -9.5V. I swapped in the subject Sony PSU and the computer appears to work fine. Turning my attention to the AB now.
Unless someone says otherwise my conclusion is that...
According to Henkel's Loctite plastic bonding guide an instant adhesive may be your best bet: https://www.ellsworth.com/globalassets/literature-library/manufacturer/henkel-loctite/henkel-loctite-design-guide-plastic-bonding.pdf
Loctite 414 acheives 24MPa against ABS and roughened PC...
The little version of that clip is exactly what I was picturing, great work. Looking forward to hearing about how it works when glued.
If you have any trouble with delamination you may consider printing it with the clip laying on its side. Right now it looks like it was printed in the...
I'm glad to see someone's tried this. I was looking at just switching the 12V sweep so thanks for the advance troubleshooting!
Ideally I'm hoping to use a switched potentiometer to replace the brightness knob with one that has a detent below minimum brightness to fully turn the monitor off. So...
