Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
@Trash80toHP_Mini wow great job! I didn't read the entire thread in detail, but from your experience, do you think you could get an acceptable picture projected onto the back of the CRT glass?
What a creative idea! I'm really curious to know how this would turn out - you might even be able to mount all the components inside the original tube?! (perfect for all those clear Macs about to hit the market :P)
I got everything off eBay, and yes the LCD was not cheap! It was certainly a big risk when I bought it.
There are Mitsubishi panels that are much cheaper, but from my reading of specs their luminance & contrast ratio are not as good (although I'd like to test this one day)...
I believe the panel I'm using was released in 2012 - well according to the spec sheet anyway.
I had to hunt around for the correct LCD controller that listed this panel as compatible. The panel has an LVDS interface, and I also needed to source an inverter board for the LED backlight.

I've been scrounging parts for a while now to somehow upgrade an SE/30 to a colour screen. I finally started piecing it together:
The Mac has a RasterOps ColorBoard 264 in its PDS slot, and I've connected it to a VGA controller via a DB-15 to VGA adapter. Thankfully the VGA controller...
It's worth mentioning that the wifi router does not need to be mounted inside your Mac - I just did it for fun.
The GL-AR300M comes in a box that you can plug externally into your network card:
I've tried a bit of the video stuff already, but with limited success. I have a RasterOps ColorBoard 264. I bought a DB-15 to VGA adapter and also a cheap $20 VGA to HDMI adapter.
However the HDMI adapter refused to accept the VGA signal, which I can only assume is because the RasterOps output...
The SE/30 CPU is not powerful enough to handle modern HTTPS encryption & decryption in a timely manner (even with an accelerator). To solve this, I delegated the encryption work to the OpenWRT wifi router, which has a 600mhz processor.
So, the Spotify player relies on the wifi card for more...
Is it a non-socketed motherboard that works? Mine is socketed, but I have a non-socketed board laying around that needs a recap.
I know that technically it shouldn't matter, but I thought there might be subtle differences between these motherboards?
Thanks @Bolle, well there you go!
I still have the original box & user manual for my Daystar - both of which clearly say that the card is compatible with the SE/30. So I guess it's safe to say that the Rev 2 cards are compatible as long as you don't add a second PDS card.
After all, the...
Thanks for the thought! I've already tried with three different ethernet cards with the same outcome.
I'm not alone with this issue, @Crutch had the same problem and I've also seen other comments floating around this site describing the same issue.
I'm now of the thought that some Daystar...
Thanks for the kind words.
The ROM version on my Turbo was older - so I even went as far as getting an EEPROM programmer and a PLCC32 chip and I upgraded the ROM to 4.11! It didn't help :(
I haven't tried recapping the Turbo - but it's worth noting that the Turbo works perfectly when no...
@maceffects I've been following your clear case project and can't wait for the release date. I did a post on the wifi mod a while back:
I'd be more than happy to help you set it up for your project, PM me and we'll sort something out.
