Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
It just made me very happy to learn that a large recycler to do what you do, and to read the list of the hardware you've got. It's awesome they see there's greater value in them by offering them to the market that exists for them.
Thanks for the insight beachycove. While I was a little tempted to go for the 8500, I was already scared off by the size and cost of toner.
I always thought the 16/600 was one of the better LaserWriters. We had them in school and I can't really ever remember them having issues despite high...
Very nice! I've got a 20SC that I got for free with a Mac Plus about 10 years ago. Only one I've had the opportunity to make my own. Sure would be nice if mine was a 160 from the factory! I also have a couple of CD SCs that share the same form factor which I need to test at some point...
$3.99...
At least with a 14,000 page yield on the 8500's toner, it'll be a while before you need another one! I don't know how easily they come apart. I've only seen a couple in person, and they were in service. At least it's a "last and best" model!
Also, if they're giving away a LaserWriter 8500, who...
@mac2geezer that's a generous offer, thanks. I may snag that 8 MB SIMM. While I don't have an immediate need, too much RAM isn't something I've ever complained about... :beige:
Despite owning many Apple products currently and in the past, this is my first LaserWriter. I did turn down one in...
Got this from my Stepdad, the place he works replaced it with something newer. Page count is 101,827. Stock 8 MB of RAM. I connected it via one of the AAUI adapters I already own. I'm out of network ports without venturing into the dreaded basement to find another switch, so there's no network...
Very nice find! I love boxed stuff. I unfortunately lost many (but not all) of my boxes by keeping them in an old shed at my Mom's. Most were late 90s/early 00s. Only a few old ones were lost...Color OneScanner box, ImageWriter II, etc. Oh well.
I love the carrying case too. I don't think I've...
I have one of these that I bought brand new. I think I still have the original box somewhere. Mine is the low end 850 MB model. I've still got all four feet somehow, too! I believe I got mine in about 1997 or 1998. Maybe as early as 1996? 1997 seems about right. As others mentioned, it did come...
I really wanted one of those back when I lugged around my first PowerBook, a 5300cs. Given my desktop StyleWriter and ImageWriter at home, and availability of networked printers at school it was never a purchase I justified.
On the comment about the separate black only cartridge: I'd typically...
Definitely a bummer. I agree with holding onto it until you stumble into the right parts, especially since you mentioned what good shape it is in physically. You never know when you might come across a beat up one with good internals for cheap or free! Plus it doesn't take up much space.
Is the 3.0 manual this one or a different one? Playing with A/UX is on my list of geeky things to do, and has been for some time.
Regarding the LocalTalk Bridge, there may be a driver or utility. I'd Google it, or just hook it up and find out what happens!
Will the old OS 9 Retrospect client software still talk to the current OS X server version? That'd be a slick way to back up the old and the new to one Mac, then back up that data to a remote location. I've been planning a new backup plan and backing up to one computer, then backing that one up...
I'm not familiar with that exact LocalTalk Bridge, but does it actually need drivers? Usually they just require at least one LocalTalk device on each side and the bridge just lets the ethernet LocalTalk device(s) talk to the serial LocalTalk device(s).
If I'm wrong someone will step in and...
I believe this will help. Trag gets credit for finding this and posting it in the Trading Post.
I totally spaced on the fact that the I/O panel would be a little different due to the lack of FW800. D'oh! Good thing the eBay seller you bought from had been down that road before and hooked you up...
In Primary School there was a traffic light on the wall of the cafeteria. If we started to get loud it would go to yellow...really loud and well I think you can guess. Clowns rode out on unicycles and shot us with paintball guns. OK it just turned red. The clown thing sounded way more...
A SCSI card could be useful for using older peripherals. Like I mentioned in another post I paid extra for one in my G4/350 when I bought it new...but never actually needed to plug any of my old stuff into it. For all I know it came DOA 13 years ago and I still haven't noticed!
TV tuner is a...
That's some good info waynestewart.
That one made me laugh the most. You were just talking about a motherboard swap, right? If so that's only maybe true if you take breaks to shuffle around the carpet in your socks a few times while doing it. :scrambled: :o)
The built for OS 9 thing has a...
Very good deal. Why didn't you tell us it came with the internet cord? That just seals the deal. :p (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
Like mcdermd said, the monitor alone is often valued at what you ended up paying.
My guess was close to her asking price! You could probably give it a better ad and...
Those MDD 2003s were what I was talking about, sorry not to specify! Like waynestewart said, faster makes more sense unless you buy a board without a processor and need to use the existing 1 GHz on the new OS 9 capable board. I'm sure OS 9 will be fast either way, so price will probably be more...
