More Pics. QCmockup5.png QCmockup6.png ;) Yeah, I still need it. The wink was: an ulterior motive for the post was to jog a memory :)

    I want to do this...

My silly idea of only using period tech. The SCA drive would totally fit though. QCmockup1.png QCmockup2.png QCmockup3.png QCmockup4.png CCABconnect.png That would be awesome, but the leads are as close together as the wires on a HDD cable, and have to line up perfectly. It would be...

    I want to do this...

Separate post, because the other is TL;DR. The LC power supply supplies one +5V, one +12V, two GND, and a -5V. The CC loom uses two +5V, one +12V, two GND and no -5V at all. So, two questions: 1) is it okay to supply both +5Vs to the CC loom with the one +5V from the LC PS? 2) is it a...

    I want to do this...

Glacially moving forward. inside.png I traded CC_333 all the components on the Classic II's analog board for the naked board itself back. The only things he left me were the power plug and the switch, so they will be mounted in the correct positions. The bare area gives me a nice place to...

    Macintosh 128k, but...

The 128k Mac has such a cache as the "Original" Macintosh, that people forget how useless they were by 1987 or so. If you were trying to use a 128k to actually accomplish things in the late 80s, you at least took it to 512k as soon as you could, and by '91 or so you could literally find 512k...

    Macintosh Hard Disk 20

The HD 20, the external Floppy Port, Floppy Drives themselves, ADB, Serial and SCSI in one fell swoop, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, the 30-pin iDevice connector... Apple will introduce new technologies and then kill them (sometimes just one generation later) when existing customers "still need"...

    Q605/LC475 (onboard) ram upgrade.

If I read the gospel according to Trag correctly, yeah; each 20-pin chip can only be 512k. So .5M x 8 chips = 4M max.

Awesome bolus of info Trag. Thanks. I too wish we'd known all that in December ;)

    Q605/LC475 (onboard) ram upgrade.

Bummer about these chips being the wrong flavor to work with these Macs. But now you have 25 little decorative baubles. Try making jewelry out of them! Just to be clear these chips were: SIEMENS HYB514100BJ, which is a "4M x 1 Bit FPM DRAM 5V 60ns chip." RAM gurus: what is it about this RAM...

Classic II Motherboard in an SE? (Temporarily)

The pin-outs are reversed 24=1, 23=2, 22=3, etc. theoretically you could make an adaptor, but it would be easier to just find a Classic or CII junker to test it in.

Non Mac conquest - Dell Mini 10!

The mydellmini.com boards are a wealth of info about those machines. Be sure to check out all the forums there. There are interesting Mac-related things that certain Dell Mini 10s are useful for.

    Q605/LC475 (onboard) ram upgrade.

What about the Q630/LC580? It has 4MB soldered on too, and is frankly a more full-featured platform (IDE, CommSlot, Video in/out) than the 605 or 575 boards. Has anybody tried a 128MB SIMM in there? Any reason to believe it would work any differently? I'll have to snag my dad's 63x from his...

A Mini and some surprise numbers on the end of my SE

I won't post pics, as it isn't anything unusual. Just a nice working SE/30. As I suspected it has a big HDD (240MB) and more RAM (4 SIMMs of 4MB each + 4 SIMMs of 1MB each = 20MB) than stock. The board looks great, no bulges or obvious cap-goo. The original 1989 Tadiran purple battery was...

Macintosh 12" RGB CRT to LCD conversion

The main issue these days isn't finding 12 (or whatever) inch LCD monitors, but finding the correct 4:3 aspect ratio LCD monitors. 12" is right in the range of POS/cash register size screens that are coming out of service, so those might be some good keywords for your search. As for taking the...

Macintosh Color Classic I, Pattern Failure

I could never find anything about the logic board itself, because all the crazy Japanese dudes back in the day were gutting and tossing the stock CC loom and replacing it (after some irreversible chassis mods) with a 5x00 loom interfaced to the CC analog board (which is why I was able to find...

    Q605/LC475 (onboard) ram upgrade.

I didn't realize you had both handy. I'd love to see the difference. I haven't seen 256MB 72-pin SIMMS ever. Could you put bigger chips on a SIMM? The stock SIMM doublers are too tall for the pizza boxes.

    Q605/LC475 (onboard) ram upgrade.

When I send you my 605 board for a recap, you'll have to benchmark the stock with 132 vs the "value-subtracted" with 128. It'd be interesting to see actual data on the bump!
