The day has come!
Tested, working, and good to go. The only minor issue is that the G3 modem connectors I ordered are shorter than the last one I bought, despite being the "exact same" part from Digikey, so the fit in the G3 is rather snug. Luckily the connector still sits well enough for...
Getting closer! I've got my sights set on the Pismo and iMac G3 versions next but I have at least (I think) confirmed that the supplementary connector in the G4 Mini has the right pins for me to hook up a CircuitTalk. I still need to nail down an ID on the connector used though.
Correct, that's the hallmark of a dying fluorescent tube. Tubes in this condition should not be used because fluorescent tubes are negative-resistance devices. The more current flowing, the lower the resistance, i.e. when stuck at low emission as pictured, the lamp is drawing a lot of power and...
I have a hot air soldering station but any temperature-controlled heat gun should do the trick. There are a lot of DIY reflow videos on YouTube that explain the process in detail. You just have to be sure to heat the board in a controlled fashion such that it does not get warped by uneven heat...
I have a dual 800 board that does this intermittently too. I've tried reflowing the cache chips but to no avail. I get the impression that those old DDR (?) chips are quite long in the tooth. Whether it's bad chips or just bad solder at the root of the issue is yet to be established. The latter...
TL;DR: Have you got a chip labelled 343S0150-B or CS4217-KL on your Power Macintosh's logic board?
Over the last week or so I have been at war with my SuperMac S900, which died an unceremonious death last year. The machine's current status is that it either, A: emits 50-100% of a chime but...
I think heat might be a good assistant in cleaning those blocks out. I've been meaning to overhaul my mod at some point soon and have been wondering whether or not a steam washer would work without destroying anything. Alternatively, an automotive radiator flushing fluid could work.
I've put your name on the list!
If anyone else is interested then please let me know here or in a message. I will have four G3 kits and four G4 kits available and so far just two G3 kits have been reserved.
