Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Not at all, your input, like everyone's is always valuable.
I'm in the same boat, like most of us working class. Sadly these have to take priority over our unhealthy obsession of old/vintage silicone!
No doubt I'll necro this again sometime and see if we can finally solve this mystery!
Thanks for that and sorry for the lateness of my reply. I've shelved the machine for now. It sounds like you have exactly the same issue as me.
I wonder if Vogons might be more helpful for this. It might generate some interesting discussions at the very least.
In the mean time, please do post...
I did actually think this, I'm not sure there's a way I can just format the primary booting partition without destroying the DOS file drive partition.
There might be a way to downgrade but I can see OS 8.1 putting up a fight to achieve this.
If you could take a picture of your config and...
Well after installing to 8.1, I can finally make the DOS drives on the secondary partition with success. Not sure what the issue was before but I'm more than happy now so thanks for the advice on updating the OS.
Everything seems to work great, albeit, slightly slower than 7.5.5 but I can live...
Sounds to me like you're on to something. I should have suggested using IPA on the slot or SIMM too! Oh well.
I wonder if that the slot may have took a knock or damaged some other way while there was a SIMM installed (dropped possibly?). Are the solder pads all making connection?
If you need...
Ah I see. Il probably just make a file the size of the second partition in that case.
8.1 seems to have installed okay, will let you know of the PC side of things are working.
What timing, I've literally just been doing this for my 630.
So in answering your question, it really depends what you intend on what kind of CDs you want to make, the burner and (half decent quality) CD-R's shouldn't matter too much (avoid RW's though!).
With ISO files and most other disc...
Ok stupid suggestions and probably obvious but here goes.
Have you checked for polarity and made sure the cap ratings match what you replaced and that they're definitely making good contact?
Did you replace them with a different kinds of caps? I know solid state types are preferred and people...
Sorry to double-post, just a quick question for the gurus.
The OS8 disk tools has an option to partition a drive as a ProDOS format, could the DOS hardware access that partition if it is formatted that way?
Brilliant, thanks. I will probably let someone more talented loose on it since it does look finicky.
In the mean time, I will try 8.1 and see what that goes, will keep you guys posted.
The OS 7.5 CD install complained about the drive size being too big, but it seemed to no issues with the 8GB drive being split into 2x 4GB partitions, only after updating to 7.5.5 and adding some software did it start to cause the freezing shut down issues.
Still no idea what's going on about...
Well I'm running 7.5.5. I generally want to avoid 8.1 as System 7 is notably more spritely and 7.6.1 doesn't have quite the legacy support 7.5.5 has.
My old HD has 7.5.5 too and doesn't exhibit these kinds of issues.
However, that idea of re-inserting the main board is a good one, I'm not sure...
Hi again chaps.
I've drawn a blank on this one so I figured you guys are the best people to turn to.
So I have a couple of issues with my 630 that have cropped up since I've upgraded the HD to an 8GB one (2x 4GB partitions).
First one is that it crashes a few seconds after selecting "Shut...
Dumb question here, what machine is it? I know my LC was woefully slow on System 7.1. Didn't take much use or software to drag it down more and more as I used it.
I downgraded it to 6.0.8 and it was positively spritely in comparison.
But yes if you see "visible damage", and if you got the...
I guess this card will remain a mystery. . .
But if anyone does find out some info on this particular card please do let me know.
In the mean time I suppose I will list it up for sale as it is. As said, it could always be used as an FPU card!
Thanks for the help anyways especially omidemo...
10029-1F?
No.
All my LC's have network cards with FPU's so it isn't really any more useful to me. That said, it's possible that might be what it is. But would it be a colour card? It has an 8-pin D-sub on the rear, not the usual standard 15-pin D-sub so I assumed it was probably mono.
As per title, does anyone have any information on this card? I was going to list it up for sale but I got no idea what it is exactly! I assume some kind of mono video card (duel or full page display?).
Does anyone have info on this? Better yet are the drivers still available?
Regardless, I'm...
Got mine a couple of years back for atleast twice that in 'untested' condition. I got lucky as it worked fine but I don't have that trademark monitor stand like yours has. IDK what happened but finding them things on their own are fetching silly money on eBay all of a sudden.
There is a "Mockingboard 4c" for about £85 (~$125?) as well which is something you might like, it's certainly on my wishlist!
I can vouch for the A2H VGA adapter. I can't stand just having a green phosphor display, no matter how 'A E S T H E T I C' it may be (though i'm glad I have it for the...
