    SCORE!!! Macworld Mac Secrets 5th Edition . . .

The Macintosh Bible is great too. I reread my 3rd edition recently and it gives me a nice warm nostalgiac feeling, of the days where there was enthusiasm and trepidation of the oft-delayed System 7, and you had to juggle the fonts in memory of your LaserWriter to get faster print speeds.

    MacFurniture™ . . .

I love that the Macintosh 21" Color Display can only be safely used on some models of DuoDock! :beige:

    Quicktime on the windows side

QuickTime X is a completely new framework, think of it as a modern, Cocoa version of QuickTime. It's not a cut-down version of 7 at all. Personally I think it's unlikely that it will be ported to Windows. It does have a severely cut-down featureset in comparison though.

Proposed Hack: iMac G4 15in SXGA mod.

I personally don't think it's as hard as all that. Depending on the exact vintage of the parts, they probably speak the same language of LVDS. The main concern would be whether they use a similar enough connector to do it. I would imagine if the laptop SXGA screen is full 8 bit then it could be...

    Scored a Perfect iMac G4 800MHZ

The takeapart is really not too bad. You're right about the PSU in them though, they can be a little meagre. Which model of iMac do you have?

    Old School & New World.

Would you mind posting this info when you're not too busy? My old computer club has a G3 running a webcam and might benefit from 640x480.

    keyboard died, need a replacement

USB Overdrive handles most extra media/shortcut keys on PC keyboard painlessly. It's free if you don't mind the nag screen once per startup.

My first conquest! (no, not just pictures)

    Nice one. :D

    keyboard died, need a replacement

I don't think this tends to work on new Apple keyboards, they are too held together with glue and presumably thin sandwiched layers of traces to work again after drying. Killed a Pro Keyboard by doing this.

PPC G5 Halts, Panics, Crashes - heat related?

It does sound like a bad CPU or bad RAM, unfortunately. If you have spare DDR anywhere, I would try that first. The heat-related symptoms does lead me to suspect that it's probably the CPU though. :(

Radar and Sonar... what are they?

Radar is the name of Apple's bug/issue tracking system, and if I remember correctly Sonar is something to do with service histories and knowledge base. No idea about any of the others.

    Wacom Tablet

Oh, I had an n52 as well. Maybe it was Intel's fault! Someone was writing custom drivers for the Nostromo at some point, I wonder if they ever got finished. Otherwise, ControllerMate would likely handle it, if $30 is OK. I upgraded my USB Overdrive and it supports a lot more devices no so...

What you you think, was this a good deal or what?

The 9400, while good for a integrated GPU, is definitely not faster than a card like a X1900. It's roughly the same speed as a dedicated X1600, maybe a little slower than a 7800. That being said, some games might well run better on the mini.

    Wacom Tablet

Wow, I never knew anyone else who used a Nostromo! I bought one for WoW originally, but the command overlay also made me a lot more 'productive' at general Finder and web tasks. Unfortunately, 10.5 killed the nostromo.

How many have a Powermac G5?

I bought the last of the G5s, a dual core with 7800GT and 2.5 GB of RAM when it was brand new. It was a great machine, but with the switch to Intel suddenly $500-1000 worth of PC parts made a much better Mac than you could buy from Apple. I sold it last year and have been using a Hack as my...

Is it possible to turn an iBook into a Deck?

Screen Spanning Doctor simply removes Apple's artificial limitations on the true dual-head capability of various video cards in the iBook and iMac lines. Unfortunately, the limitation on the 2MX is all too real. And I know this is even more tangential to the whole thing but I can't believe...

    Apps For Macintosh Classic,

A Classic can handle lots of older B&W games that "died" when System 7 came out. The 575 can handle many earlier CD-ROM games like Zork and Myst, as well as old favourites liek F/A-18 Hornet 2 and Sim City 2000. It's also quite good for some older games released with colour versions, like...

    Best Mouse you used?

I've never met a mouse that I really loved. Something like a "Mighty Rat" but with three real buttons and no scrollwheel would be my ideal mouse.

    iBook G4

Yeah, it does. I even believe that a GUID disk with a plain 10.5 install on it will boot any supported Intel or PPC Mac.

How much can I get for my G5?

The best native video card you can get for it is the 7800GT 256MB. I believe this was only ever sold as a BTO option on a new dual core G5 so they're quite hard to find. You can flash certain models of PC 7800 or 7900 with a Mac ROM, and that's usually the cheapest option. I have also heard...
