There's a utility called SwitchRes that might provide you with the extra option for screen resolution.
But it also depends on the video card in your G4 - does it have enough VRAM to display at your desired resolution? It should, but if it's an older card there's a possibility it might not.
Just today I picked up a Plus with the same D logo on the front, except mine is a blue sticker rather than an embossed one. I'll put some pics up soon, after I see if it boots, and then take off the bucket.
Hey Mars, great job on this - and you really capture the essence of liberation, getting multiple partial or broken machines and making a working one out of them. I love the Black MacBooks (I wish Apple would've made the remaining $999 plastic MacBook black instead of white), and congratulate you...
I got one of these for my 7300 back in the day. They really do make a difference and they did indeed cost a fortune when they were new.
For $5 it's a great deal - and a cool collectors item!
It's not a SIMM-size limit; it's a limit of the logic board's memory controller. The Color Classic, for example, comes with 4MB RAM soldered onto the logic board, and it has two SIMM slots, in which you can put 4MB SIMMs. That would make 12MB - but the CC can only see 10MB. AFAIK the same basic...
I just had my first occasion to replace a hard drive in an eMac. My goodness, what a gigantic PIA!
It was easy to do, but it took about an hour from start to finish and included something in the neighborhood of 30-40 screws of nearly a dozen different types. Not one of Apple's finest moments...
I agree with the others - go for the multiscan one. 640x480 gets tired real fast, and in my experience the Color Plus 14" is just not a very good monitor. IIRC the MS15 is a Trinitron while the ColorPlus 14 is a shadow mask.
I think when Macs shifted to the "New World" ROM-in-RAM, support for machines newer than the OS - i.e. 9.1 on later model G4s - was provided by new Mac OS ROM files. So Trash is basically right - the "Mac OS ROM" file was basically the New World version of a System Enabler.
Most of them work great. Here are some details for those who are interested:
Power Mac G4/450DP - works great, 448MB RAM, 10GB HD.
2X Snow iMac/600's - both worked, but no HD or RAM. Put 512MB RAM and 30GB HD in one, 256MB RAM and 10GB HD in the other, both have been sold.
Beige G3/233 AIO -...
Had some good luck with free conquests recently:

Hi guys,
I recently got a very nice iMac G4 (17" 1.25GHz/USB 2.0 model). It works fine - but, when I start it up, it makes a strange sound.
It makes the normal startup bong, and then right after that it will make one, two, or three short buzzes. Startup is not interrupted during this time. The...
