Hey everyone,
I've got a fully-restored SE/30 that is giving me screen issues. It's the one from this thread: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/30045-full-recap-of-my-new-se30-with-many-pictures/
I've attached a video of the screen issue I'm having (can upload to YouTube if the...
I've got orange Alps switches in mine, not sure who made the keycaps.
It's a great keyboard! I would have never thought to look for one, I just got lucky that it came with the SE/30. It's very satisfying to type on and takes little desk space. Would definitely recommend for use with a compact.
Trash80, I don't have a parts list. It was all mostly Nichicon 105c low ESR capacitors from Digi-Key, with a few Panasonic for the sizes I couldn't find Nichicon in.
Boctor, I never watched Hey Arnold!, but I'll look into that.
Today I took the mouse and IIGS keyboard apart for a cleaning...
I did the same modification to my SE/30, with the same fan. The fan shroud is mounted too far forward in this picture — I realized my error as I was putting the machine back together and fixed it later.
Fan moves some air, but not a huge amount. Computer still gets warm after an hour or two...
Hello everyone,
A year ago, I picked up an SE/30. It's still a work in progress, but I've gotten far enough along with it that I think it merits a post.
Here is the SE/30 as received. I found it on Craigslist and had to drive a couple hours for it — figured the drive was worth it because the...
The guide I linked to claims the Decor doesn't work on black-and-white Macs. Haven't tried it yet though.
I'll experiment when I bring my SE/30 back from my parent's house later this week.
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for suggestions for the best way to get a black and white compact mac to display a desktop picture under System 7.1.
This is not my picture, but I'd like the final result to look something like this SE...
I did replace all of those blue capacitors, but the whining noise remained. I have put a ton of hours on the machine since the restoration though, and everything has been rock solid.
I'm glad you enjoyed the thread :)
I was only somewhat confident going in, but I learned a lot during this restoration! Going slowly and doing a lot of preemptive research will go a long way. The analog board is very forgiving, so as long as you go slow and treat it with respect, you...
Alex,
I did a full restoration on an LC550 last year. It is very similar to a Color Classic, so my restoration may be of interest to you.
Restoration work starts on Post #8, and I included a ton of pictures:
https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/26444-fpu-and-scsi2sd-for-lc550/
Hey everyone, I am in the process of ordering parts for an SE/30 and had a few questions. Can you guys confirm that the replacements I am looking at for the following parts are correct?
Motherboard —...
For sure with some upgrades, the Color Classic can become a very versatile machine. It just wasn't the Mac for me.
Nice TAM by the way :)
I got called off work today, so I decided to spend some time in the world of 90s Macintosh. First I went to the e-waste place where I found the LC550...
I haven't had time to continue the restoration and probably won't until next month, but I wanted to add another picture. (I love pictures, in case you couldn't tell):
This is a crappy iPhone 4 picture of the Color Classic that I had about three years ago.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I...
Lido can also format that drive for you:

I recently formatted a non-Apple 1GB IBM drive in my LC550 using the patched version of HD SC setup. It worked great!
Good luck, my LC5xx brother. Keep that 520 alive :)
I have had good luck downloading System 7 ISOs from Macintosh Garden:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macintosh-os-755
and then burning with this utility:
http://www.ntfs.com/iso-burning.htm
YMMV, but that has worked for me. I burned the images on a Windows 7 PC with LG DVD-RW drives and I...
Got another package in the mail today:
With that, the motherboard is completely restored and fully upgraded. We've got a few things left to do on the Analog Board and then we'll be moving on to the final phase of restoration (drives and peripherals).
Almost done now. Stay tuned :)
I have the Farallon card in my LC550 now, and a few years ago I had it in a LC550-upgraded Color Classic. It has worked well for me both times. No issues to report.
