    Classic II Recap Project

If you go with aluminum polymer, there is no risk of putting one in backwards and having it burn up like there is with tantalum. When they fail, they fail open. I’ve done two tantalum recaps myself, thinking about going poly for the next vintage mac I have queued up (which is, coincidentially...

Bringing a Mac Plus back from the dead!

Maybe you've got a pinched ground wire somewhere, or something similar.

    Color Classic x2, Classic, SE/30, PB180 x2, PB3400, etc

Amazing haul, I would have considered $100 a fair price for just the SE/30 or one of the Color Classics alone!

Repairing a very damaged Mac Classic

    Dynamac Smokin!

Interesting that the company that made the PSU is based in Vista, California. That’s less than half an hour from where I am originally from and have lived most of my life (Escondido, CA).

    Cool Apple Accessory

I found a TI-83 for $6 a few years ago. I wasn’t able to pass it up either! Definitely a cool device.

    Dynamac Smokin!

Interesting.  What makes this model so particularly irritating to recap?  And do you have a picture of the sticker?

    SE/30 Green Fuzzies!

I had those exact fuzzies on my SE/30, though not to the extent that you do.  Mine came off when I washed the board and the computer has worked great after a recap.

LC 575 logic board in a Color Classic: Mods to the board?

Looking good! I think fan swaps in this machine are a very pleasing mod. Also easy—any fan will do as long as the CFM is sufficient and the noise level/type of noise is agreeable to you. When I restored my LC 550 (extremely similar to the CC, link to the thread is in my signature) I used a...

Faking an Apple HDD on SCSI2SD

^This has worked for me.  Let HD SC make its 20mb partition, then delete it and create a bigger partition.

LC 575 logic board in a Color Classic: Mods to the board?

I am also a fan of CRTs, particularly Trinitron displays. I had an XBR960 back in the day. Got it free, changed out the two ICs in the power supply and watched it for a few years. Stunning picture, amazing sound with the built-in subwoofer. Sold it for $100 when I moved and it couldn't come...

Full recap of my new SE/30 (with many pictures)

Three updates on this machine:   Update one: the screen flickering issue has been resolved!  It turns out that there were bad solder joints on the CRT neck board.   Update two: I picked up a IIsi Radius Pivot card that I will eventually use to drive a small external color display.  These are...

Extreme Screen Flickering Issues on Mac SE/30

I haven't had any issues, and we're a few months in with lots of hours and power cycles put on the machine since the recap. If you're really worried about it, it would probably be best to wait for the opinion of someone who understands electronics theory (techknight, et. al.). But 60uf is less...
