Does the SE/30 live up to the hype?

Hi all, we've had threads about "which compact is the best?" before, but I'm wondering if we can have a thread specifically about the vintage Mac that needs no introduction: the SE/30. It gets a lot of love, and seems to be most appealing and valuable out of all the compacts.  People want this...

    Macintosh LC very quiet speaker

I had very faint sound on my SE/30 when I first bought it.  New caps brought it back to regular volume.

Trying to fire up my Apple II Plus

Have you popped the chips all the way out of the sockets (carefully, so as to not bend the pins) and then put them back in?  Often, they need more than a push.

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

Did someone say R G B ?! Sounds like this is going to be a very refined product when it's done.  Looking good so far!

SE30 cd 68mb Diimo 50 Radius color Full recap Complete almost..

If you put the SD card in a modern Mac, it can read the files on it no problem.  Can't write to it though. If anybody knows of a program to make an actual image of SCSI2SD SD cards, I have actually been curious about that lately myself!

    Macintosh IIsi

Quick question: what are those googly eyes in the menu bar?  I've seen them many times before but have never been able to figure out what they are for.

    Macintosh IIsi

It’s funny, I’ve never owned a IIsi but have always really wanted one. There’s something cool about it. We had one in my 2nd grade classroom way back when. A Performa 6116CD was my first computer ever when I was a kid during the late 90s. So both your childhood Macs are related to my...

You’ll love the SCSI2SD. It makes the Vintage Macintosh life a lot easier! I hadn’t seen this thread before now, but I’m loving your SE/30 setup. Great work!

Mac SE serial port vanished ?

Interesting thread, this explains a lot. I have had trouble getting the modem port to work for AppleTalk on my SE/30, now I know why!

Mac Plus & scsi2sd bizarro behavior.

If I’m not mistaken, Michael McMaster is from Australia as well? He has been very responsive to the community regarding SCSI2SD issues and suggestions over the past few years. Seems like a really great guy! Also, I’m guessing, something of a SCSI guru at this point.

    New Lisa Hardware Coming

Excuse me for a second guys, I need to clean up a puddle of drool over here after reading CC's post  [;)] ]'> I would jump at the opportunity to put a brand new motherboard in my SE/30!

Stumbled upon this site. Extensive OS collection

Really cool site, I didn't know they were back up and running!  They've definitely helped my vintage computer hobby a lot over the years. Not sure if you're allowed to say, IPalindromeI, but what happened this last time you guys were down?

    New Lisa Hardware Coming

This is really cool!  What an incredible feat from the hobbyist community.  Prices seem reasonable considering the incredible amount of engineering hours that must have gone into developing these and how much time will go into hand-assembling each one.   These four gentlemen have worked...

questions about SE (not FDHD) - Floppy drive, capacitors

Capacitor replacement is not as crucial for you as it is would be if you had a SE/30 or Classic, because the SE doesn't use surface mount electrolytic capacitors.  (Surface mount electrolytic capacitors look like this, and they are a replace-on-sight part).  That being said, you may experience...

Mac SE unable to read from floppy drive connectors?

Could be bad Bourns filters as well

old Macs and 68pin hdd with adapter

Seconded, I had to use an external terminator to get my SE/30 to talk to a 1GB IBM drive. I believe it could be a sign that the Bourns filters on the motherboard are marginal, but I’m not sure. But yeah, try adding a terminator if nothing else seems to work.

A reminder that leaking caps kill more than Macs

For whatever it's worth to this thread, I had a pretty nasty accident back in July that wouldn't have happened if my car had had ABS.  I was driving my '96 Civic (may she rest in peace) and I had no ABS as it wasn't standard for that model year. I was on the freeway going ~70mph.  A car to my...

Asante MacCon Mod/Radius Color Pivot II/IIsi Cable Build-n-Mate Thread

Excellent, thank you so much for this thread!  I just picked up a IIsi Radius Color Pivot a few months ago and would like to get it installed in my SE/30 in the next year or two, this thread will help immensely. For anyone interested in the IIsi Radius Color Pivot, they are currently available...
