But doesn't the CD-ROM drive have a 50 pin connector? I don't think you can use an IDE hard drive unless you clip 10 pins off the 50 pin connector. You will also need to find a power source for the IDE Hard drive. 

personally I don't think you could buy a computer for a nickel. Unless its for free.

Well obviously the batteries are dead. You need to buy a new battery, or have the cells replaced.
