Does the external SCSI bus of a PM9600 have termination power supplied from the computer itself already? Or will I have to supply that via a device? I'm pretty sure the internal one doesn't since the stock zip drives have term. power enabled.
SCA drives don't have jumpers? I thought so but maybe I'm wrong. I'm going to inspect it and see.
You raise a good point about termination power. The internal SCSI bus of the 9600 has termination power supplied by the Zip drive by default. I don't think the external bus has some kind of...
I read that on a 9600, if nothing is connected to the external SCSI bus that it will terminate itself. Well what if you have a cable connected by itself or a drive connected that's powered off?
More importantly, my external HD enclosure has worked perfectly even though I have no SCSI terminator...
Turns out both batches of those disks I bought were bad. I got another batch and the first two formatted perfectly :)
Out of curiosity, what's with all that fading on these diskettes? I have some 'original' floppies of software and none of those have that weird circular fading and...
I got two packs of these sealed Verbatim diskettes but they all fail for some reason. I did notice that these are probably old since there's fading on every diskette in a circular pattern. I've noticed that a lot but never knew exactly why that happens.
Some of the fresh floppy diskettes I have come up with a 'PC' icon on them. Is that a different format from the regular DOS format?
I just blew through about 6-7 of these floppies, trying to format them to DOS format in System 7, but every single one of them gives me an error that says "the...
Funny... When I hit the power key on the keyboard, wait a bit, then press the power button on the 9600 itself, it shuts down... THEN the power key on the keyboard works. But only in that scenario.
I have another 9600 and it doesn't do this. It's 100%
Weird. As I said though the 9600 turns on -- the HD spins up and the LED on both the 9600 and the keyboard comes on, it just doesn't boot into the OS. My screen stays black.
It's got a new PRAM battery, and my old one is still good.
For some weird reason my 9600 won't boot with the power key on the keyboard. When I press it, I hear the chime and the computer is running, but it just won't boot into the OS. If I press the power button on the 9600 itself however, it starts up fine.
What kind of speeds are you getting when copying files from/to the SATA drive? Even if I copy a file from one location to another on the same SSD drive, I get like 2-3MB/sec. I thought this would be MUCH faster than that. I'm not sure if this is normal and if so, which spec of the 9600 causes it...
I have an ADB Mouse II. It looks like the bottom side has a twist thing to get the ball out but it's not budging. Am I supposed to access it by using a screwdriver in the hole under that sticky label instead?
I have two ADB mice and neither of them track very well. The clicking is fine, it's just the ball in it that's giving problems. I don't really know what's wrong with them. Is there any standard procedure for cleaning/repairing these to get them in tip top tracking shape?
There's a little Apple icon on the very top left side of the screen. When you click it you can access the system profiler, about this mac, select a control panel, and so on. I need a shortcut for that so I can just hit a button or a combo of them and have it drop down. That way I can just use...
I'm formatting an external SCSI drive and this option is enabled by default. Not sure what it is.
In other issues, I can't seem to get Drive Setup to recognize this external drive. I had to use a utility called Anubis to format the drive and it seems to be working OK, but Drive Setup says it's...
Ok, I've discovered that for some reason the 9600 isn't liking some of the PCI cards that I've installed. I've now got the TT working in slot 4 (2nd to last). You're right, they're actually numbered 0 to 5, so in that case I meant that the TT wouldn't work in slots 4 and 5.
I took out some of...
