I wasn't saying do it i said perhaps. I don't know where to get enough acetone but id test it myself if i could
edit: Id probably dip it in there and swirl it around, then put in water. and repeat see what happened if i did try it
I decided to test out the SE SuperDrive that I tore down and put a new battery in earlier and to my surprise it was perfect. Screen was bright and crisp, drive was good with all the old files still intact. Responsive and fast, fan worked and it sounded good.
Opened up the SE FDHD and its toast battery went grenade mode doesnt look at all salvageable! RIP!
Is there anything desirable I can salvage from it for my other 2?
I personally like the yellowing to me its like petina on a bronze statue or that nice green oxidation copper gets. I found that acetone nail polish remover completely de yellows but it melts the plastic if you rub it. I accidently cleaned a big area on my IIe by letting nail polish remover...
Alright so went through what turned out to be 4 Power Mac 7100/66's and 1 Power Mac 7500/100
Out of the 4 7100s 2 had blown batteries, one so bad i couldn't even get the case off it was frozen on there and the plastic just disintegrated. 2 of them looked good internally.
The 7500 was in nice...

A tip that I have is don't take one of these compacts apart without a magnetic tipped screwdriver. No matter what I did I could not get the inner screw back in the hole when mounting the harddrive back on top of the disk drive I had to leave it out for later. So annoying impossible to get your...
Thats what I was thinking ive been a lurker here since probably 2015 and i always enjoyed this kind of stuff so the first thing i thought of when i happened across this was id post it because i knew people would find it interesting and maybe get something out of it. I sure have learned alot so...
Thanks for the tip. I was aware of the fragility of the necks on these. The glass looks pretty damn thin. I've taken apart a good amount of CRT tvs in the past and have done minor solder repairs. I hope to take that to the next level soon..
To answer one of my above questions, I realize now the logic board kind of swings open like a door a bit allowing you to easily disconnect and connect the speaker wire. Also to change the battery lol so no need to take all the drives out!
Going to break down the 3 SEs today and take the batteries out. This is my first time taking apart an SE I had a minor hiccup. I kind of breezed through a youtube video of a breakdown and it didnt show the removal of the wires off the logic board so i just did it myself as i figured it was...
I was curious about this card i posted on page 2 and I found the manual for it online apparently it was some kind of card for making television or something. Computer Friends Inc TV Producer heres the manual
I was just curious about it
Thanks for the info. I did some research myself on it, looks like it was used in conjunction with a tall long monitor the shape of a sheet of paper thus the full page. For graphics design and word processing, like you mentioned. Pretty cool stuff
Its about bedtime now but i remembered where my driver extensions were so i opened up the non superdrive SE as i noticed it had something on the back the others didnt theres some type of expansion card in it called Radius full page display 64khz. Am not going any further on anything tonight but...
