Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Some time ago I opened my LC-III again and noticed the caps started leaking, seems I waited too long:
So I had to remove them, and clean up the gunk they left around. It took several baths, but even vinegar didn't help much and only some Kontakt 60 + WL actually got the mess out. One more...
It currently has 9.1 installed.
Sadly the cpu is soldered on the board, so no possible upgrade (cheapo...).
Haiku has been ported to PPC, but the port currently expects openfirmware, so oldworld macs will need some more work.
I just got that thing at Alchimie...
(this one has 64MB RAM and 4GB hdd)
Sorry don't make an offer it's promised to someone else already once I get Haiku running on it ;)
I had some word processor work at school looong ago, IIRC we had a room full of classics, and a color LC for the teacher...
wonder if they still have them around (they had a pile of even older junk left once I checked)...
HardwareBook also has cable instructions.
You could use SLIP or PPP to connect to a PC. If the PC is running Linux or another Unix variant it's quite easy to setup a ppp server. On the mac it should be as simple as setting up a dial up connection with no number and no chat.
From there you can...
Eh, I'd be more thinking about trying A/UX on it, but according to penelope it's not supported. :-(
Maybe it just needs some disasm to find where it checks the gestalt codes, as it should support the hardware just fine actually.
I successfully replaced one in a powermac by 2 paperclips and a standard 4.5V battery. It's bigger but fitted perfectly in the case behind the power switch. Cheap and replaceable. Just make sure clips are correctly insulated.
One-step case openning... some PCs should learn from that.
There is a PDS ethernet card inside but the connector seems to be AAUI, I'll have to find/make an RJ adapter I suppose.
Let's see if it keeps the clock (it thought it was 1956)...
Tonight I went to my LUG and we cleaned up the cupboards :)
LC III 8MB 160MB with keyb/mouse and b&w portrait monitor... just a bit yellow but boots fine.

Just found this nice forum when checking for the specs.
I'm thinking about porting...
