    Dual G4 Processor

I'd distinctly hope it's a bit faster than a dual PIII-733 actually :p That said though my Dual PIII-800 runs like a train - it almost matches a AthlonXP 2200+ (1.8GHz) for speed [:)] ]'> Running a proper OS that has a damn clue what SMP is always helps too [:D] ]'>

    Thinkpad!

Wonderful, more FUD-ridden anti-Apple slander... Just like that doom-mongering over the TPM chip on early Intel Macs that was going to shackle us all to our desks and make us eat gruel until Apple... oh took it out... It can't exactly be hard, Apple have had it working for almost 2 years now...

    IC 4-200P (mac clone)

I have a Clone, a PowerComputing PowerTower 200e, but mine's a Catalyst with a CPU slot (thank the lord :p ) and 320MB RAM, oh and a G3/350. Not tried XPostFacto on it yet, but seeing as it works ok on the 8550 then it ought to work on the PowerTower too.

    Java development on a 68k

The phrases 'don't' and 'bother' spring to mind... but seriously Java has some fairly hefty overheads - the versions that even work on 68ks are so out of date and long-deprecated that I doubt you'd even learn much useful by developing on a 68k. You'd be better off using C and Codewarrior to...

    a win, but also a loss :(

You know I spend practically every waking hour on the internet/at a computer, but provided I have enough books I can live miles from any computers in a tent for weeks :p Sometimes you just have to unplug. I also enjoy going hiking with my dad in the countryside around here, and hopefully when...

    Two G4s in a beige!

That ought to work in a B&W if it works in a Beige... maybe? Now THAT would be worth doing [:D] ]'> 10.4, Radeon 9250/128MB and Dual G4s?

    First post here...

One day 68kMLA will stick to a thread topic... and hell will freeze over, satan will skate to work, and Steve Jobs will be nice to a guy in the street... Anyway I just wanted to ad TextMate to my list of favourite OS X apps. BBEdit is dead, long live TextMate - Apple's text editor of choice!

A guy claims to be selling a "dual processor" IIfx

It's a load of BS, that's what it is. I mean, read the part about the 'Black SCSI Terminator' and tell me he's not full of crap...

    Problems opening the optical drive

Might serve to find out where it had chaffed and stick a couple of layers of tape over it to protect it. The red wire IIRC is the 'unit ready' line. A 'low' signal (i.e. the line is 'off') indicates the unit is at the ready state. I don't know how this affects tray locking on CD drives...

Not What It Says On The Tin

Do Radeon cards even work with Mac OS versions prior to 8.6.1 or 9.1? I didn't think they did but I could be wrong... As for an OS you'd possibly, at a stretch, be able to run OS X on it, although don't expect earth-shattering performance. I have a Rage 128 in my 8500 and a G3/266/1M, and it...

    Sun Ultra 10

I don't recall any other graphical UINX OS apps being much different. In fact I think OS X is na exception as it is closer to the UNIX ideal than many others, and this is boosted by a lot of developers making great 'one shot' apps anf Utilities. Look at Apple's OS X Application collection. This...

Like I said, some people might not want that, geek credibility means jack **** to some people after all, no matter how much geeks think it rocks bells. Some people have better things to do with their time, and that's fine by me. FWIW Another reason I use ubuntu is because all it's major branches...

    Sun Ultra 10

Sweet, it'll make a nice first Sun UltraSPARC box then. You could always download the Solaris 10 ISOs from Sun while you are waiting. I would consider finding a DVD-ROM (most standard ATAPI units will work) nigh-on essential. Installing Solaris 10 from 6 CDs is highly laborious!

    Sun Ultra 10

If you couldn't easily get Ubuntu working your hardware was either poorly supported or faulty, or you are clueless. DSL is a hacker's Linux distro, made for a specific purpose. It's not easy to install because it's target is hackers and tweakers. Puppy, I'd enever heard of until I read that, but...

    IBM RS/6000 7044 44P-170!

And people wonder why IBM techs get through so much coffee in a day..? It's very nice, my RS/6000 (which is a cluster server that originally came in a rack of 12 and was intended for headless operation in a remote server room) still has the built-in sound board and speaker. I have this bizarre...

    OS X on a PowerBook 1400c 400 Mhz G3

First non-NewWorld machine I ran OS X on was a 7500 with a 604e/200 in. It ran OS X 10.1 for about 8 months as a server, and was oddly usable as long as you didn't try and do too much at the same time.

MAJOR RANT: I'M MAD AS HELL!!!

3 Major things make ABS plastic I think they are ABS, I'd have to double check) go brittle over time: - Sunlight. We all have seen white machines go yellow, but translucent plastics denature in sunlight too in the same way, but it's not nearly as evident. When it gets *really* bad you can start...

    Sun Ultra 10

Oh STFU. Solaris is great, I love it a lot on the Sun's I run it on, it even works great on a PC. But it is a GODS OWN BITCH (apologies in advance to any sensitive religious folk) to install Open Source software on to (compared to say Debian, or Fedora). The package repository systems available...
