The $10 Beige G3 Minitower to close out the year.

I'm out of town for the holidays, and the past few days have been slow. Checked local listings for anything interesting, and sure enough, $10 G3 MT only about 20 minutes away on LetGo. Drove out and picked it up this morning, haven't tested it yet (all my gear is at the house) but it's in...

    Original 1998 iPhone

No luck getting it setup with my magicjack unfortunately, it has expired and I can't reactivate it.

    Original 1998 iPhone

Came across this guy at a thrift store for $3 and I just had to get it. It's got a web browser, email client, can browse phone directories, and even make calls! I have a magic jack kicking around that I'm going to hook it up to.

    Quicksilver!

That's good to know, and I'll keep you posted on the fan progress. Out of curiosity, what video card do you use? Mine has the stock Geforce4 MX, which is fine in 9 and Tiger, but I might be interested in something a bit more powerful (though I would like to retain OS9 compatibility, which I...

    Quicksilver!

Yeah, replacing the fans with something a bit newer and more quiet is definitely high on my list at the moment. I know the main system fan and CPU blower are both thermally controlled, which limits replacement options a good bit unfortunately. I’m not sure about the PSU fan, but on this box the...

    Quicksilver!

Unless I find an '02 motherboard for peanuts, simply using a SATA card is much more effective. On top of that, the SATA card enables me to use a solid state drive which performs significantly better than even the fastest ATA drive can.

    Quicksilver!

Unfortunately this machine in question is capped at 128GB. I've put my SATA card in for now which gets around it, but still, you know. I would like to put a zip drive in it, so I'm going to begin the hunt for a proper faceplate.

    Quicksilver!

I've been looking for a Quicksilver for a few years now. They're my favorite style of the G4 towers (the B&W is my favorite of this style tower overall) and they seem to be fairly rare, at least as far as crossing paths with me goes. Granted, I have been being fairly picky - holding out for...

Rev. 2 B&W refusing to boot from anything

I booted a MacTest Pro disk for this machine and did a full RAM and hardware test, and nothing came up bad. Not really sure what to make of it, honestly, but right now it's performing perfectly fine.  I am still unable to get into the option key boot menu though, that's kind of weird, but a...

Rev. 2 B&W refusing to boot from anything

Resolved.... it was the PRAM battery! Putting in a charged battery resolved the issue entirely.

Rev. 2 B&W refusing to boot from anything

Hey Guys, I picked up what I thought was a great deal on a B&W off craigslist last night, and now I can't help but wonder if it's cursed. The previous owner said it worked a few years ago when he last used it, but we all know how that goes....  Anyway, here's what I know so far. Also, I...

7600/120, AppleVision 1710, and Other Goodies

Interestingly enough, this is true! The Turbo Mouse uses a 2.25" (or 57mm) ball, same as standard sized billiards balls.  Seeing as I don't have one of those just laying around, however, I ended up picking up a cheap "as-is" PC-serial version of the trackball, with a ball, that I'm going to...

7600/120, AppleVision 1710, and Other Goodies

Thanks! I'm quite excited, especially about the monitor. The only Apple beige CRT I've ever had was a MultiScan 15, which isn't/wasn't all that great.  Regarding the data, though. You raise a good point - users' data should be removed, though many macs (especially the higher end macs from...

7600/120, AppleVision 1710, and Other Goodies

Very lucky craigslist find, been looking for some beige for a while. Out of town visiting family and I decided to cruise CL and I stumbled across this kit, very reasonably priced. Bought it from the original owner, an ex-freelance graphic/web designer who used this as her workhorse up until...

    Sawtooth and Clamshell

Yeah, I've looked over both the Apple repair guide as well as the one on iFixit. The Clamshell isn't quite as bad as the dual USB/500 so I'm pretty confident it should go well. A lot of it comes down to being very careful to keep track of screws (an egg tray is great for that) and being very...

    Sawtooth and Clamshell

After an incredibly long dry spell looking on craigslist, I decided to try and check out the "letgo" and "offer up" apps. I was rewarded almost immediately, only after wading through all the old ipads, iphones, apple watches, and macbooks, did I come across a sawtooth (with a NEC 17" LCD) for...

Inexpensive multiple LCD setup, wall mount TV . . .

Proper VESA mount kits are really inexpensive and would probably be a far better route, as Cory suggested. Here's a two arm unit with a desk clamp for $30 on prime, with great reviews no less: https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Computer-Articulating-Installation-Heavy-Duty/dp/B01HSJN0HK

    Macintosh SE (M5010)

Not a whole lot to say about this one yet, as I don't have anything to test it with yet. Picked it up at a computer-centric thrift store this morning for $30. It's a dual-800k/1MB model that has an aftermarket HDD upgrade - not sure if the lower FD was upgraded to an FDHD. It's clean overall...

    PowerBook G3 Lombard

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. So far I've done a few wipe downs, and that has helped significantly. I also popped the keyboard off and situated a small desk fan to blow through the internals there, and that has made a huge difference. I think just leaving it out and open for the past...

    PowerBook G3 Lombard

I've been out of the old mac game for a long time (years.) Was digging through craigslist late yesterday, as you do on a Friday night, and I lucked into finding a PowerBook G3 listed at $65, not far away. Pictures suggested a Pismo or Lombard (eventually narrowed to a Lombard as it says...
