    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

-first of all, I'm an idiot with a scope since i have never used one... but I'm trying my best here :D" - Thanks for the input but to me that does not make sense to me. To be sure I tried the Se/30 LoBo in my known working SE which gave me the same result. Since the PSU outputs normal voltages...

    Battery Covers

I would think they would have both come in both colours... here is why: The 128K, 512K, 512Ke and the ED all had the squares around the icons near the ports, and the 512Ke and ED were both produced in beige or platinum (I think). The little icon without the border is the one that belongs with...

1993 Classic with a Classic II bucket - unusual?

Yes. Also have that exact rear bucket on my one classic, including the little plug for the mic-in port!

What is this (LC "prototype" upgrade)?

The 'Prototype' IC is a video IC, google thinks. The output port is a DB-15 port... so looks like video as well (standard apple monitor out) Too bad the FPU socket is not there!

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Ah thanks for taking the time to try Uniserver! Reason I was trying to boot with SE/30 rom was to see if the IIci would give the same random floppy drive bus errors as the SE/30, to make sure the rom wasnt bad.

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

but is an SE/30 rom actually supposed to work in a IIcx/IIci?

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

my IIci does that too with an SE/30 rom and no jumper, so that behavior is to be expected.

    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

Starting to lose the hope here :-/ :?: Just checked all pins of the UH7 chip to their locations, all is good there. Checked the ram banks to be sure, they all connected as they should as far as I know. What does the mac DO or NEED when formatting, that is DOESN'T need with normal...

    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

At least I can find some comfort in the fact that the SWIM itself is probably good. When I get home I'll do some more testing, surely this can't be impossible to fix!

    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

Okay I'll replace the big caps too, other ones are already replaced :) Just saw your thread Uni, is that insaneboy's board you were talking about earlier, the symptoms are completely the same :O If not, did you fix it? EDIT: oh and yeah i lubricated the drive, it operates very smoothly.

    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

Just finished measuring the SWIM. The Address bus lines and Data bus lines all connect from the legs of the SWIM chip to the corresponding pins of the PDS. Thanks for the information about the filter networks! Just tested the it to be on the safe side, its completely ok. Looks like it protects...

    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

The capacitor leakage was present but not very aggressive in any way. Some corrosion is visible on the chip legs and vias but nothing out of the ordinary as far as I can see. Just checked all the lines going from the SWIM to the ribbon connector, those are all fine :) Now going to check the...

    SE/30 Floppy Troubles

I've recently acquired a very nice SE/30 with a great looking Logic board :) I decided to wait with my conquest topic about it until I recapped the logic board. Did successfully wash the board, did replace all the smaller caps while still leaving the two bigger caps in place, without one...

    Gotta love CRT Screen Burn

Oh boy that's a lot of burn-in. When I was retrobrighting some stuff with a UV-bulb, all of the crt's in the room lit up and you could very clearly see the burn in on some of my macs. Pretty cool. I hope to get my first SE/30 soon... I'm bidding on a very good looking one with a 10base2/aui...

    IIci PSU suppression caps replacement

Ah, great! Kind of like the idea of the twist-able plastic part. On later models, it became a software feature in the energy options I believe.

    AppleDesign Powered Speakers

Tadaaaa :) They sound great for their size and price :D The new speakers: The insides: And the component that does the hard work, the black metal backplate is actually a big heat sink for that component, it gets a little warm on heavy use, not hot :)

    IIci PSU suppression caps replacement

My IIci also came with one of those... never got any monitor to show any output using that card... It disables the built-in video port so it must recognize it somehow. Thanks for the info about the PSU's btw... have two machines that use the same type.

    AppleDesign Powered Speakers

Too bad, the replacement drivers are too big! However, I did some more research: The 8.7cm (3,5inch-ish) size is a standard size for European small car speakers (maybe that is why they sound quite good). Most of the replacement speakers in that size will be expensive high wattage car-audio...

    Miniscribe™ " The Brick " hard drive :-)

I never came across the miniscribes that everyone talks about. They have the linear stepper motor drive heads right, bit like a floppy drive? My Mac SE came with a still working 20 mb Rodime stepper motor drive that sounds like this, love the startup seek sound of it. (not my vid btw.)
