    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    Just tried the board again and sadly it does the same thing :( at least its repetitive (ie it does it every time) and nothing has gone up in smoke as far as i can see so i have not shorted any main power rail to a sensitive data line for example... i think LOL I do see 2 bridged balls on the...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    bit of a status update and some good news. so id like to report that the G4 upgraded Pismo has been working nicely since i did the CPU swap on it (never had it kernel panic for example) but the non working L2 cache was bugging me so yesterday i decided to fix it :) based on other reports of L2...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    with a cloned install of 10.5 on the drive the iBook should boot right up its a uninorth machine, all the drivers (apart from video drivers) should be in Leo already, in regards to the PowerBook Pismo IIRC i booted off of a USB stick from the built in USB 1.1 ports then before it found root via...

    [POLL] Desktop G3 VS Mini Tower. Which do you prefer?

    https://browser.geekbench.com/geekbench2/2622693 heres my Kanga score as mentioned above :) the 95 was achieved by an 8600/250 (604ev) running tiger that i setup for another friend of mine which you can see here https://browser.geekbench.com/geekbench2/2594131 but yeah I like making OS X (and...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    Cool. So your running firmware 4.1.9 then? im well aware That this is a PowerBook2,1, in that regard you dont have to modify the tiger ISO to install Tiger on it, with a couple OF commands you can temporarily fake your machine as a PowerBook2,2 and install tiger using a stock tiger CD. (well one...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    very nice to see the iBook running :) do note that the thermal diode on 750/7400/7410s are not calibrated normally so i would not really believe that thermal read out. in regards to clock speed i think its just variants in the program try comparing it to another program and see what it...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    Sounds like a plan! :) Pismo should work nicely with a G4 upgrade mine has been working perfectly fine temps are good as well with the stock heatsink setup a small amount of AS5. in regards to upgrading the PPC G3 NuBus Card and the PowerStar CPU upgrade card what you have to check is...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    very cool! hows the thermals like at that speed? :p btw did you ever get OS X running on it and the firmware update installed? also at 533 is it still reporting as running at 67Mhz or? I wonder what say this reports http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/gauge-pro. im still on the look out for...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    there are professional shops that can remove BGA chips reball em and put them back in place on what ever PCB you want them to do it on. with that said you could probably overclock the 500Mhz 7410s that every man and his dog in the far east seem to have for sale :) to 550Mhz. (and id not be...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    the early G4s dont clock up that high your lucky to get a 150Mhz bump (50-100Mhz is the normal average). the highest clocked 7410 CPU upgrades iv seen topped out at 600Mhz. one of the 7450s big redesigns was a redone and deeper pipeline to let it clock faster then what the 7410 could manage (as...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    theres No way you can get a clamshell clocked to 1Ghz theres no compatible CPU with them that clocks that high. the best you could do is rob a 533Mhz 7410 off a Apple CPU and clock that to like maybe 650Mhz or something plus remember clamshells are fanless computers so you will be limited by...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    interesting heh. if the cache is still there on the board what if you install OS X on the machine and install sonnets cache enabler does it enable the cache or does the machine lock up because the cache gets enabled but is running too fast? also still waiting to see it running leopard :p . also...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    so it is currently running without any physical cache chips then or? also interesting on the firmware update, i have not had many issues with updating firmware/boot roms (I have had to update a lot of my own machines and I did not have many/if any issues at all although i dont own a clam shell...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    well its defo not running at 66.8Mhz thats for sure :) I suspect OpenFirmware does not know how to compute the 7.5x multiplier you set it too (some G4 upgrade cards for the G4 towers warn of this and some had OF patches so OF detected/displayed the right frequency to the OS). Btw did you...

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

    I already mentioned trying sonnets cache enabler on the iBook G3 but yeah defo get the firmware updated (sonnets cache enabler works best from my testing) dont use the one in xpostfacto it hangs the system in anything past like 10.2 LOL

    Display upgrade - PM 9600/350

    the Radeon 9200 AFAIK will only work with full 3d/2d in 9.2.2 (as thats the only OS the ATI drivers for that  card work in) in 9.2.1 the system will lock up in 9.1 and before the card will work fully but you wont have any 2d/3d as theres no drivers for anything before 9.2.2. make sure to install...
