I bought a Sun XR-100, which is basically a Radeon 7000. The reduced ROM for a Radeon 7000 doesn't work on an old world Mac. I tried installing a flashed reduced rom 7000 on a Mac clone, but it never showed any display. Do they actually work with the ROM Xtender Extension?
The interesting thing...
I tested the Interware card on the 9600, and apparently it works after all as it gave a chime and a grey screen, since there are no bootable drives attached. I plugged in my BlueSCSI and behold, it actually works on the 9600, but not on the Power Computing. So it must be a compatibility issue...
Just as a preventative measure. I already swapped out the PSU on the Power Computing one with an ATX as it has the same.
I just turned it on and the fan sounded funny. Best to replace it, but it did show an image. Goodwill listing said it bong, but it doesn’t on the second try, must be...
It seems that the right panel is in bad shape, had a lot of broken pieces.
Spindler Plastics got to it, sadly. Might need to tape it down, but maybe someone should make 3D print models of the missing pieces so I can make replacements and glue it on.
I got a Buffalo 466 MHz and I put it in the Power Computing and it does the same thing, but fan turns on. I have a feeling that none of these Japanese G3 accelerator cards work on the Catalyst clone. I do have a 9600, but I need to do some work on it before I can actually test it. I do have one...
I finally got the 9600. Yes, it needs a lot of TLC as it's in a similar shape as Action Retro's. The floppy panel was in the box, apparently fell off and the right side is loose. Also somewhat dirty and needs cleaning.
What I discovered is the two mystery PCI cars and a Twin Turbo "Ultimate"...
The pre G3 Macs that use IDE will be picky with drives and even then, the 128 GB limit didn’t go away until the G4 Quicksilver (2001 or later models).
Not sure if this work, but you can try this (you need to create a partition smaller than 120 GB). Otherwise, you need a smaller drive or use an...
I made a disk image of the driver image for the Buffalo, which is available on Macintosh Garden. I wonder what it actually did since it has a System Folder. When I inserted it after the chime, it boots, and spits out the disk and reboots the machine. I guess this might explain what the disk does.
Since I have more finds, I may as well create the own thread.
First is of course the Power Computing Macintosh Clone that I bought from here, which is my current project. I have shared the initial setup in a blog post, along with explaining what Macintosh Clones are. I managed to get it running...
If the next attempts at these Japanese accelerators fail (although they are obtain cheap), I may go for it, but I probably need to find two working accelerators and perhaps try to sell the non-working ones at a discount if anyone wants to give it a shot at trying to get it working, may require...
Yep, I tried cleaning the contacts with eraser and then wiping it with isopropyl alcohol to clean any residue, and it still doesn't work. I think it's probably a dud. Won't know for sure until I try it on a 9600.
Oh well, you win some and you lose some, but at least it's not over $200+ (I only...
Also worth noting that Buffalo, who is a subsidiary of Melco, is still around. They also apparently made G4 accelerators for the Japanese market as well, but I haven’t seen any come up on Yahoo Auctions. So, there might be more of those sold compared to the Interware ones, maybe better built...
The Buffalo one I have, but not yet shipped (it’s sitting in storage in a proxy), which is a 366 MHz says that it’s working in the listing, so I may have better luck with that one.
I won’t be surprised if the Interware one doesn’t work, but I’ll try the eraser method as alcohol isn’t enough. I...
I’m running off a Ati Rage 128 from a Power Mac G3 B&W so I don’t need vram
I bought a stick of RAM, but it was expensive. Might need to find some at swap meets
Never mind, I finally got it to boot, with the original Cpu. I need to reseat it, but it did boot afterward, but not with the G3. May be something with compatibility or the card not working (need to test it on a 9600 when I get that).
I probably will test the Buffalo G3 accelerator if those...
Seem to have boot issues with the PowerCenter I just got yesterday. It will make some noise, but not the chime when it powers on. It did the same when I turned on the machine that had no battery and when I insterted it.
After putting a new PRAM battery, I still don't get any chime or video and...
Anyone having issues booting? After putting a new PRAM battery, I still don't get any chime or video and I'm running out of steps. I reseated the RAM, used a different PSU, installed a different processor card, but nothing seem to work. There is no cache card installed.
It was booting before...
I have finally brought that Rabbit Hole Computing Hard Card, and it’s like the easiest card to flash to work with Mac OS 9 or earlier. I flashed the card in a G3 Power Mac and plan to put it in the PowerCenter Power Computing Mac clone...
