A lot of the parts for the clone machines are proprietary, and computer resellers usually take the whole drive sled/rails out when removing the hard drives, and neglect to put them back before putting them up for sale. I had to buy 2 for one of my Mac Pro's, and three for the other, on account...
Oh, and I think you might also have to tape off the power pins on your graphics card, just to make sure the ADC is completely non functional, and not sending power to your monitor.
Is the Yikes the first one? I thought the Sawtooth was first. I meant whichever one was the first G4 after the B&W. I thought the Yikes just used a modified B&W motherboard, that's why I thought they'd be similar enough to rehouse a B&W into the case.
I remember there used to be a guy who sold adapter cables to convert ATX power supplies, to work with G4 Powermacs. By the time I found him, though, it was too late. He said he no longer makes the cables. I don't think there ever was a way to adapt the ADC power line to an ATX PSU, so once you...
This is the nomenclature that I would use, as the cases for these models is closer in size to an actual pizza box, then the smaller, low profile case models.
It is when 99/100 sellers are selling the exact same thing for less than half the price. Where the real problem comes in, though, is when other sellers start raising their own prices, based on the high priced sellers prices. It's like if you had 2 gas stations in your town, and one was normal...
The 580 doesn't use SCSI, it uses IDE. I should have specified it was a 580.
Also, what is the largest capacity drive these are capable of addressing?
I'm thinking a IDE-CF adapter is going to be the way to go, but I'd like to see what other options are out there.
Thread title changed to...
Does anyone know if it's possible to install a SSD into one of these machines? I powered up mine recently, and get the floppy disk icon on the screen, like it can't find the hard drive anymore. It's been a long time, so the hard drive has probably crapped out from age, and I want something more...
It's not too surprising that they accepted your offer. It's a niche market, these days, for RAM sticks that old, and sellers usually just want to move them out of their inventory, or out of their house, so they can put the money towards something they can use. The only people asking big bucks...
I've always wondered if a more modern liquid cooler might be made to work in a Powermac G5, since the ones from Apple were leaky crap. Maybe that should be your experiment, instead of trying to fix something that is only going to leak again.
7.5.x is heavy on 68000 based Macs. 7.1 is better for those, assuming your machine is one of those that wasn't cut off from OS support before then.
Otherwise 7.6.1 or 8.1 are both good, if your machine is supported by them. I'm pretty sure most 680x0 machines that will run 7.6.1, will also run...
Try Internet Archive. If it's ever been available for download, they probably have a copy of it, without copy protection. That's probably why they shut down.
I was trying to avoid buying a 9600 motherboard. I really want the extra PCI slots in my 8660 case, though, that's why I thought of swapping in the 9500 motherboard. My 9500 is usable, but I wanted the easier access of the 8600/9600 case.
Loose daughtercards are always fun things. Now all you have to do is source the other part that it mates up with, to be able to use it. I have part of a Rasterops video upgrade here somewhere. Have the board, but it didn't come with the cable. The seller didn't know what it was. I hoped I would...
I am also curious about whether this is possible or not. If the 8600 PSU is an issue, would the 9500 PSU be swappable? I would think that as long as it physically fits, and all the connectors reach the motherboard, that it should work, right?
