    Out-of-business sale conquests

It would be a shame to let Quadras go to the dump. :( Esp. if they are working. Parts are a scarcity now.

    Out-of-business sale conquests

Quadras for $10 each is a pretty good bargain. I would go back to see what else is in the pile - perhaps some of those Quadras have some expansion cards of interest. That iMac looks like its in nice condition. I would avoid the bondi iMacs as the CRT flyback transformer failure is an issue...

Four beige PPC towers & three 5.25 FDDs.

Nice score, the 8500s are nice machines. If only the plastic was not so brittle. (Dont look at them wrong, they will crumble) Is it me or are those Rana System Disk II clones bigger than the Apple original?

    Pismo!

Well, I bought more things to go along with the Pismo: 2x256mb PC133 SODIMMs - they will either be a Samsung or Micron set ($9 total) Replacement Clutch Cover - get rid of the part with sharpie on it ($4 total) Below are some images from the auction. I really cant wait to get started! 8-)...

    Finally, a LUNCHBOX!

OOM: It is an 80486 desktop PC repackaged to be a portable computer. This one seems to have a card to test fiber optic networks by my guess looking at the connector, which matches the ones on my Nortel switches for fiber connection. Trash, I hope that Compaq Portable II that was going to...

    Pismo!

I find it odd how the Pismo has an AGP GPU, but it is not supported for OS X acceleration. Granted, it is an old Rage 128 type chip. Unfortunately the GPU is in a BGA package - it would be difficult to replace even if the Radeon 7000 was pin compatible. The R128 is a fine chip for OS9 though.

    Pismo!

This is my first conquest in a long time. Due to circumstances outside my control, half of my collection and most of my spare parts are stuck at a relatives home and I do not have access. As a result I have done little with old computers in general. Lately I have been thinking of setting up a G3...

    "No FPU installed" BOMB'n IIfx . . .

Suggestion beyond resetting the FPU and CPU: Clean the socket/pins with electronic contact cleaner. That stuff does wonders for me whenever my 68k Macs get oddly flaky. My Q800 started to crash regularly with gibberish errors, and they have all tantalum capacitors. Turns out, the RAM sockets...

    Laptop Acquired: MacBook

I have been wondering this for a long time: Will the logic board from a 2008 nVidia old plastic non-unibody Macbook fit in a 2007 Santa Rosa Macbook? It may make for a cheap upgrade for my Macbook. (Or at those prices just get another one)

Powerbook 170 Battery Door won't open

The plastic battery lock thing can get VERY stiff with age. Apply tons of force. You may need to pry it open regardless. If I recall correctly, opening up the Powerbook will also let you free the battery - check the service manual first though, its been 2 years since I opened mine up! :beige...

    A rescued relic (Macintosh Classic)

Go with the ThinkPad. I was never impressed with a Vaio, they seem to have a lot of flex to them, even in the screen part. All of those ThinkPads listed have tough cases. (I know the T6x has a magnesium frame, not sure if the T500 switched to Carbon Fiber) The T500 is ideal over the 60/61p. You...

    De-Conquest (it was taken)

I know a few people with Jetta's from the 2000's and they all like them. They all have the car with the 2.0l engine rather than the smaller 1.4l. I hear the diesel version is more efficient and fun to drive. Right now I am researching what to get for a first car once I get my Drivers License. I...

    Barn score.. not mac

They did not make many BeBoxen....that is an epic find. If I were you I would hold on to it. But then again its your choice, and I certainly understand that cashing in now is also very logical. (Esp. since you played with BeOS) Still a great conquest.

    Is it is . . . or is it ain't . . . IT IS!!!! =8-D

The section about supported Video cards, the Apple ROM'ed version is not listed. Although the manual could be older than when Apple was making the card. It also does not show up on the rockets' graphics acceleration control panel. However, graphics don't feel slow by any means.

    Alps Glidepoint Keypad

Thats pretty cool. It almost looks like an Apple-made accessory for PowerBooks. :beige: Since Alps was an Apple contractor for keyboard switches, and other components I assume, this makes sense. I have seen the ADB touchpad only on eBay but I never bit. How well do they work?

    Is it is . . . or is it ain't . . . IT IS!!!! =8-D

I dream of a Radius ROM for my Apple 24AC :p Although I doubt it would make Radius Rocket video faster, even if the manual says so. Could you test that theory in RocketShare perhaps? :)

    Conquest: Powermac 9600

There are various ATi Radeons or Rage cards to pick from on the GPU front. These are most likely the most expandable Mac's that will ever exist really (9x00). Nice find! Nice thing about the 9600 is how the case is not 100% made of brittle Spindler Plastic. Mac OS 7.6 will be hyper-warp speed...

Possibly the software conquest of the year

Unfortunately there is no educational software, Scott. All this software is strictly engineering/office/OS type software. Still making disk images and its 1:18AM. Once I start projects, I dont stop. Thats one of my weaknesses and strengths. I think I am hearing the whirr of the Apple Motor...
