    Power Macintosh 4400/200: no graphics

I am glad to hear you got your 4400 working. Another good thing to try is cleaning all the contacts on the logic board - after so many years those pins get dirty. Electronic contact cleaner can be found in auto parts stores here in the US.  Those adapters are really hit and miss, I own two...

    PB190 acid attack victim

I had no idea 7.5.2 could run on a 68k. I thought it was a specific release for the PCI PowerPC PowerMac's?  It is indeed an unstable and glitchy OS...bought a CD for giggles and never used it since.  I would go 7.5.1 due to the lack of memory. 7.6 is kind of fat for 8mb RAM.

Mac IIvx Saved from Scrappage! (and some others)

The IIvx sure is an odd duck. I had one, still have the case as the case is mint. Logic Board flat out died long ago, and taking bad advice I tried washing it. It will probably never live again. :-/ When it did work, it was slow. Not as slow as an LCII/I but pretty bad. Apple could have had a...

    PowerBop part II

I doubt it...these types of things are implemented in hardware and its likely the RF frequency and modulation standards are totally different between GSM GPRS/EDGE and France Telecoms Bi-Bop system. (Bi-Bop is short range, not really "cellular" to our current definition. More like wifi.)

    Happy 10,000th Birthday!! (Mac II)

I am in Calculus 1 (Calculus with Analytic Geometry) in college this semester. BLAH I took it last semester and had to withdraw, all other classes including Computer Science was an A. The professor was a nut who focused entirely on theory and Proofs, without really explaining the beginning...

    Finally a IIfx!

I suppose I was lucky that my IIfx came with 81mb of RAM. Its a weird number...no virtual memory is on. :?: They are great machines, the best part to me being how it does not lag up on simple operations like floppy disk read/write like other 68k macs. Whenever I read about the original...

Macintosh II - Do you remember what it was like?

My IIfx has mostly tantalum solid-state caps from the factory (Fremont CA 1992), so I assume that the only part that will need recapping will be the PSU (its a Sony though, so probably uses high quality Japanese caps) and the two rather large radial electrolytic caps on the logic board some time...

    Intel iMac from work...

I have run (then-2009) current versions of Ubuntu on Pentium 3 rigs at 800mhz with 256mb RAM fine. Recently tried Mint on a machine with a 1.4ghz Pentium M and 512mb RAM and it also went well. It doesnt have anything to do with the iMac, but it does have to do with poor computer security...

    Intel iMac from work...

Why not? There really is no reason not to run a current linux distro, and keep up with patches. After all, Linux is cost free. While security issues are not as great on Linux, its still extremely unwise not to keep up with patches...

    PowerBook Joblot

If you could please post the manufacturers of the drives, that would be great. From my batch of PowerBooks, I found IBM to be the most reliable, with only 2 out of 6 failed. Quantum was the worst, both drives from PB150 were dead. Conner was 2nd worst, 1 out of 3 working. Sorry about never...

    Extended Keyboard II

The EXII KB is a really nice KB, its what I use with my desktop ADB bus macs. The keys have a great feel and are quieter than other legendary mechanical keyboards like the IBM Model M. The EXI has a slightly different feel, its a little more clicky, but about the same. One thing for sure is...

    PowerBook Joblot

Some tips for you with these 1xx series powerbooks: - Look out for brittle plastics: The LCD display cover is known to fail where the hinges meet the display. Its not the strongest structure ever made. - If they refuse to boot, pull the battery out first. A few of mine refuse to even show a...

    Intel iMac from work...

I must have been really lucky. Both mom and dad were highly approving of my hobby. Mom would nag about the clutter, but she supported it otherwise. They both realized that learning computer stuff is more valuable than a whole plethora of other things I could have been doing. Not to mention it...

Quadra 950 rebooting and losing video

Here is something that may work out for you. My Q800 and IIfx became randomly flaky (both of these use tantalum caps). It turns out that the electrical contacts on the motherboard to the RAM and Nubus cards were dirty. I bought a can of Electronic Contact Cleaner at an auto parts store, sprayed...

    Quadra 800 / Quadra 840av

I will never understand why apple used the cheap caps on the higher end 840av. The Q800 is a great machine, encased in one of the most annoying cases of all time. (SpindlerPlastic as well!) My Q800 lost its CD bezel recently thanks to those brittle clips.

    MicroQuadra!

Replace the phone with an older Nortel (then Northern Telecom) 2500 or a Western Electric 2500, and we would be perfectly fooled. (WEco 2500 set) I always liked the Q605 - the form factor is nice. The reason Fallaron Etherwave cards have 2 Ethernet ports is so that you could daisy chain...

Radius Rocket Experts - is this possible?

When I tried Rocketshare on 7.6.1 on my Quadra 800 it did not work at all, taking it to 7.1 made it work. Perhaps I have an earlier version of the software? I will look into it later.

    Pismo!

Well, I picked up the Pismo from the post office today. Its in pretty good shape! Infact, I am typing this now from the local coffee shop using Airport on a clean install of OS 9. Its really amazing how quickly OS 9 installed and bam...I was online. The RAM also came in, so its flying allong...

    Mac OS 8 - 8.6 -- Are you a Fan?

This is how I decide what to run: 68000:System 7.0 68020-68030-Low RAM 040: System 7.1.1 Pro 68040 high RAM-first and 2nd gen PPC-System 7.6.1 New World Macs-OS 9 Why do I skip 8? System 7.6 FLIES on my PPC Macs, and the Macs new enough that they shipped with 8 run just as well with OS 9...

    Finally, a LUNCHBOX!

I would contact the seller straight away. Why is he recalling the package? Never saw that in 7 years of using eBay and getting packages via USPS. I did not even know you could recall a package after its sent! Knowing the USPS, the package will be recalled 1 month after you have received it...
