IMO FPGA is almost as bad as an emulator - plus it has no "culture" to it. The clone-a is the only thing that will come close in the amiga world IMO (no certainty that it will ever be released though)
Georg's amiga a1000 project just blows my mind with the craftsmanship that went into it - and...
the iiic is just awful in daylight - think gameboy advance
the m500 is closest to the original ones whilst having an external memory card - but these days a palm centro would probably be the way to go (if only it had 3g).
I'm only talking about when it's dark (great for reading in bed for instance) - in daylight it's a bit hard to read without full illumination.
Think the m125 was the last with seperate AAA batteries, but it has smaller (plasticy) screen.
I still use a iiixe today. Mainly as an ebook reader due to the great battery life and as the inverted green backlight works very well in the dark (easy on the eyes).
~30 day battery life and you can keep multiple sets of rechargeable AAA when you are away. Features you can't get at any price...
There were some viruses back in the day that physically destroyed hardware.
Dropping the head repeatedly on the hard drive was one way. Think there were some that screwed with the floppy also.
And while technically not damaging hardware - overwriting bios or other firmware will make you feel...
Got these yesterday. No greyscale board but was only a pipe dream anyway.
One SE/30 has no audio - assuming bad caps with that one (haven't tested the audio jack though).
The other has a single horizontal white line. It wasn't the analog board, so assuming the logic board needs some soldering...
Why ruin a perfectly good compact mac by making it into a frankenstein? I know I don't want to & I have other macs for that.
The first step is to check if the turbo 040 works at all in a IISI (or se/30) using the IICX cpu adapter I think. Then we can ponder the possibles.
Well the logic is to transform the IISI PDS into the IICI PDS format & would just be some simple electrical re-routing I imagine.
With regards to the initial idea - I'm uncomfortable with the idea of cabled such CPU extensions. Latency could be a problem, as could fraying of cables when...
The location tag is a bit misleading - temporarily marooned in Sydney atm. Been missing my macs so great to have something to play with (I've got a xceed macrocolor with me I need to test too).
The guy actually is dropping it up to syd for me for 30 bucks, which is pretty decent of him.
As an...
Rarely post here but I couldn't resist.
Just won this lot!

Looks crap I hear you say.. well yes and no. One of the SE/30 machines has a micron xceed color30 (FSR0369) :)...
How about using the processor direct slot & building a (cheaper) card ala artmix's?
Doesn't the PDS essentially break out the CPU pins anyway?
EDIT: some of those right angle eurodin connectors could be good on their own actually
I can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into doing this, but it's a lot of work to be ruined by such an awful paintjob - osx looks unusable on that thing too.
JRL: um.. read what was actually said before you jump the gun. If you've ever turned on a IIGS you'll know it makes a sound, and boob or booob or even beep are pretty good approximations of the noise it makes.
no - I didn't mean that. You could take that page and create a new one with the updated information, using it as a template. Or instead, create an entirely new one if you'd rather replicate the info - I just personally think the layout of that FAQ is nice.
Then host it somewhere.
Basically...
Instead of stickyfied various multipage forum threads, perhaps an updated version of this page would be better?

where did you get the quaddoublers from?
If it's designed to double a 33MHz (I assume to 50MHz - not 66MHz), why not just use it in a Q950?
If you're talking the newer tech. ones, they are probably system specific - each has it's own model number at least (I think the q900 and q700 have the...
