Strange and different: 1987 Mac 40SC Enclosed SCSI Tape Backup

It's not a Tape Backup 40SC, it's a Hard Disk 40SC.  Same case style, same period of time, two very different storage mediums. I've come across mainly 20SC's where I live, have only seen these in pictures.

A Tale of Two Quadras: 950 and WGS 95

I saw someone posted a link a few months ago to a place selling NOS lock and key sets, if you are so inclined.

Trying to locate manuals for my Q700 (not easy...d'oh!)

I dare say it means Getting Started.  That picture above will be all that it came with, no specific UG. Will check my boxed Q700 when I get the chance.

    Color Classic

They pop up, I got mine from a fellow user last month, but that was a Presto, not the coveted Presto Plus.  Will need to pop it in mine to see how it runs, the benchmarks look impressive and it's running 7.6.1 so it needs all the horsepower it can get.

    Early? Apple II found

If it's anything like a IIe, the top cover has two tabs on the back, just lift there and it comes off.

    Color Classic

Well, you can do the LC 550 logic board swap, which essentially makes it a Color Classic II, and the ports at the back line up so the cover plate still works. Or you can buy an upgrade, I just got a Sonnet Presto card that has a full 68040 on it running at 25MHz, an FPU and an MMU, or you can...

Is my Macintosh SE's floppy drive working?

The visible ones tend to be black, and the hidden ones tend to be silver, but they are all the same size (T10 from memory).

Is my Macintosh SE's floppy drive working?

Hmm, tweezers?  I don't like the sound of that! You shouldn't ever have to force anything with these systems, but if you do, you are likely to encounter damage. All of the screws are the same type, you either need to buy one of the long handled torx screwdrivers, or find a kit that has the...

Is my Macintosh SE's floppy drive working?

The first port of call with any of these computers is to disassemble them before powering them on. I like to remove the logic board and clean it thoroughly with cotton tips and IPA, making sure all of the chips are seated properly, and any excess dust is removed.  Also a great time to bin the...

    Best Powerbook out of these?

I get what you mean about the display on the 165c.  With mine, you just need to find the sweet spot between the brightness and contract controls, and it's actually pretty good.

    Best Powerbook out of these?

I have a 165c, and think it's great.  Turned it on yesterday and there's something up with the trackball, but apart from that, it runs like a champ.  The 520 would be nice, maybe see if you can get them both (or all)?

what's an acceptable price for the 575?

I sold mine for $260, I saw another sell for $275, and one recently popped up, non-working, and eventually sold for $65 (all in Australia in AUD, BTW).

    SCSI2SD in HD20SC?

No, the HD20SC is a more rounded shape and has the cord permanently attached.  Underneath, it says something like 'Macintosh Hard Disk 20'.  The one that has silkscreening on the front with '20SC' is the newer model, not as rounded.  They are quite obvious as they have the same styling as the...

"Your Macintosh was the xxth manufactured during the..." or was it?

Further to this, I bought a bulk lot from a guy with a Mac Plus, and it came with a ton of paperwork and disks.  Interestingly, there was a M0110 keyboard in the original Picasso box, the Picasso tray with disks and manuals, and it all came in a Picasso box.  Turns out the guy bought a 512K new...

Scored a Silkscreened Drexel 128K Mac!

Thanks to Unity, I've now gotten the mouse! This thing is close to new, no real wear and cleaned up beautifully.

"Your Macintosh was the xxth manufactured during the..." or was it?

I'm sure the silkscreening was done by one particular line, and later utilised across the board for the Macintosh ED and Plus models with silkscreening on the front. I personally think we may have seen behind the curtain to an extent, and I am starting to be confident that there were 5...

Best way to transfer data to 5300?

Sounds like my spare TAM.  Whenever it boots, I get to the Welcome to Macintosh screen, and just as it is about to go to the desktop, it freezes and comes up with any number of Address Bus errors (from memory, one was -97).  Have yet to get to the bottom of it, mainly due to time but also not...

    GCC UltraDrive 20 & Macintosh

I think 0 is the default of the Mac, so you would need to set it differently.  I see the drives set on all sorts of numbers, 4 seems to be common for some reason?  Never really looked too much into SCSI to get my head around it.

I have one of these boards, it just pops straight off.  Just be careful and you'll be fine.
