    Javascript slows down a G4

I can see that you are Very Smart™ and that further discussion would be a waste of time.

    Javascript slows down a G4

Storage is cheap. RAM is cheap. CPU power is cheap.  Blaming Flash is a 2012 mindset. Relatively little of the web still uses it. Javascript is indeed the issue, and multiple cores really don't solve the issue; IPC improvements in single cores are the biggest help. (This is why major Android...

    Javascript slows down a G4

Web developers don't target an operating system that was obsolete before it was released (let alone hardware that was of dubious performance levels when new), and Classilla will always be held back by the underlying OS.

Ideas for Use of Mac mini G4?

I suspect they held off on P6 being used everywhere again until Prescott was done, as that was more or less a total redesign of Netburst. Once it was obvious that Netburst couldn't be saved, they changed gears.  Intel's slowing pace of innovation, struggles with die shrinks (we're getting at...

Ideas for Use of Mac mini G4?

You're also comparing modern Webkit with an OS that's six years newer, so not a valid comparison.

How long does OS9 take to boot for you?

I actually do have to make an adjustment, turns out it's a 4200RPM spinner.

How long does OS9 take to boot for you?

Took my 500MHz TiBook 1:28 to boot into 9.2.1 cold, 5400RPM spinner. About 28 seconds to get the "Welcome to Mac OS" page, then 20 more seconds to get the menu bar loaded.

How long does OS9 take to boot for you?

Try booting it without extensions. Sounds like you've got something hanging there so it's worth a check.

    Should I get this 5260?

The thing with the Road Apple designation is that it was more relevant in 1998 than in 2017. You're not looking for a good used computer to use on the internet and for production today, so do some performance quirks really matter all that much?

    Macintosh Plus... or is it?

Standard Apple upgrade. I want to say it cost $999? Anyway, my personal Plus was a 512k that was upgraded, it likewise has the original front with a new bucket.

How about this: old hard drive sounds emulator?

I want to say this is a feature in LisaEm, or Previous. Can't recall which.

    Gamer choosing betwen 10.4.11 & 10.5.8

Just hold the Option key (Alt on a PC keyboard) when you turn it on, that will let you select the OS partition you want to boot from.

    Gamer choosing betwen 10.4.11 & 10.5.8

Dual boot 10.4 and 10.5...I thought that was obvious.

    TenFourFox Performance

You'd probably get better performance on Leopard, TBH.

    Usability of 10.3.9 in 2017

Unlike a PPC Mac, the Duesenberg at least has cachet.

    Usability of 10.3.9 in 2017

That's because 99.99% of PPC diehards didn't reach their position from reason, so you can't reason them out of it.

Using OS9 (or older) for daily internet tasks in 2017

I mean...you can make an SE/30 grayscale. Just get a Micron Xceed card.

Using OS9 (or older) for daily internet tasks in 2017

From a security standpoint Mac OS 9 and older are a completely different animal. There's really not a whole lot of security risk there. It's the Unix-derived OS X that's the concern. And I concur with sstaylor: a lot of people enlist either a newer computer or something like a Raspberry Pi to...

    Best Powerbook out of these?

I'd go for the 165c. The 170's LCD panel is subject to the same moisture issue as the 180.
