Actually, no it's not sorted at all, but it was before I put 64MB back in. Looks like it's something to do with that. Have had various chimes of doom problems, so I'm thinking dodgy memory.
Yes - it was working perfectly!
The SIMMs plugged in are 4 x 16MB in Bank A, with 4 x 1MB in Bank B, making 68MB in the only configuration that's known to work (according to the Repair Mac site).
The chimes are pretty much constant now, so I've got a weekend of playing to get it working again...
So, have had my logic board re-capped by Phreakout (cheers again!), and all is going very well indeed.
Until today. Switched on my SE/30, and the chimes of doom spring out with a simasi mac pattern on the screen. First thing is take the back off and have a look around. Nothing burnt / melted /...
I tried an Asante Talk ethernet to localtalk bridge for a while, but was completely unsuccessful getting it working.
I do think perhaps it was a client configuration problem, so it may work with some more expertise.
I remember the Asante documentation not being too detailed!
Thanks. Good information about the SCA conversion. Sorry I missed the thread.
I might have a look at the AztecMonster thing instead, as this may be a better long term solution...
Cheers again!
Hi
As is the tradition at this time of year, my nicely manicured hard disk is just off south for the winter, complete with the contents. My SE/30 is not happy.
EBay seems expensive for replacements. I have got a load of Sun SCA disks lying around (4GB iirc). If I get myself an adapter (e.g...
Thanks - got the file.h and re-compiled - all fine there.
The 0.00% readings (I think) are because I'd taken the screen before top had a chance to refresh - it was it's first iteration of display, if I leave it to refresh a couple of times, and then take the screen again...
load averages...
Cool. Thanks. My SIZE output is still garbled though - although not uniformly...
load averages: 1.66, 1.59, 1.17 18:16:44
15 processes: 13 sleeping, 1 running, 1 on cpu
Cpu states: % idle, % user, % kernel, % wait, % nice
Memory...
AFAIK the only way to do this is to use the 'img' tags in the reply, with a URL hosting the actual picture between the tags. IIRC some people here have used flickr (or a similar website) to host the pictures.
The above output was 'codified' rather than posted as an image - that is, I telnet'ed...
Well, the sights and sounds of an imminent hard drive failure are once again blessing my SE/30. :'(
A/UX is chucking up read/write errors, which apparently are 'recovered', but I would prefer they weren't there.
What's the largest SCSI disk I can put in an SE/30; this one is a 1GB device...
Same issue with the HTC Desire, running Android 2.1. The work-around that you've mentioned doesn't appear to work for me though. I can however use the trackball thingy to move the 'window on the screen' in the horizontal axis, so I can see all of it - the bottom of the screen appears to be...
Thanks for that - that's exactly why I need to do this - i.e., to use software that needs a later version of Mac OS that the 7.0.1 that comes with A/UX.
Yes, aware of that, but just unsure of the process of how to get both an A/UX (obviously with it's associated 7.1 installation), and a copy of, say, 7.5 installed on the same SE/30.
You mention that you've done this - how did you do it? For example - what order did you install, where did you...
No, sorry, should have been clearer. Realise more than one partition (and filesystem) would be necessary.
Guess I'm talking about a boot manager type thing? Perhaps something like System Picker but for A/UX / > System 7.1.
Hi all
There's recently been a post on the Compact Mac forum here, about putting both System 6 and System 7 on one mac (an SE/30 iirc).
So, do you know of a way of doing this with A/UX 3.1 - e.g., booting a later System 7 (> 7.1) and A/UX from the same disk? Disk is 2GB - also on an SE/30...
Well, the thing went BANG, and my house RCD tripped (at least it tested that...), a nice smell of burning electrics coming from the power supply followed...
This thing is toast, but have managed to salvage :
6MB video ram card
384MB RAM
G3 Desktop ROM
Weird, small PCB with inductors, coils...
According to the AUX-README, the source has been (manually) patched to make it compatible with A/UX 3.x
Doesn't seem to work for me... maybe there's something "funny" about my O/S.
Thanks anyway!
Thanks - turned out to be the thermal paste on the CPU.
Bought some. Applied it. And then it blew up!
So I'm consigning it to the great scrapyard in the sky xx(
