    Mac SE/SE/30 Ethernet Card Recreation

techfury90, this is great stuff. I wanted to do this, but didn't know how to start or learn how. Sounds like you've figured it out. Looking forward to reading about your progress!

Fan replacement for a Mac SE/30

The Notctua NF-A6x25 is a quiet fan that has equivalent airflow to the Elina (which seems to be the highest airflow among SE and SE/30 fans). If you want to try something very very loud but with twice the airflow, you might try the Delta AFB0612EH-ABF00.

    800k floppy drive help!!!!

My first step would be to give the drive a tune-up by blowing all the dust out, cleaning the heads with alcohol, and lubricating it according to the guide on the wiki. While you have it apart, give it a close visual inspection for any obvious damage.

Mac Classic in Trouble... Bad ROM? Need Help...

Even if the capacitors aren't the problem this time, you're going to have to replace them sooner than later, so you should get comfortable opening that Classic. Really, you should be replacing them now so that they don't damage the logic board traces more than they already have. You should have...

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

Also, is the software different for different types of Gravis controllers? ADB Busboy could theoretically emulate all the ADB game controllers. In that case there need to be a way to select which controller to emulate. But would it be satisfactory to choose the best controller with the best...

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

OK, I found this video about the Gravis Gamepad. http://www.killgruz.com/?p=928 Looks like the software maps buttons from the gamepad to keyboard and mouse events. What different companies made ADB game controllers? Which one had the best software? Gravis? I think I would just make the ADB...

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

Currently the firmware supports keyboard and mouse HID classes. I definitely want to support game controllers. I would implement this sometime after I implement media keys. I don't currently understand how game controllers work on the ADB side. I'm guessing they need a system extension. Do games...

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

Yes, that is how the ADB Busboy power button works. Just to be clear: none of those facts make it possible to turn the Mac on from a USB keyboard attached to the ADB Busboy.

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

I had not planned on using kickstarter for this project. Managing a kickstarter campaign is a headache. Dealing with fulfilling pre-orders (such as kickstarter) is a headache, due to product changes between payment and fulfillment, from people changing addresses, etc. There's also the 5% fee on...

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

ADB does not provide "standby" power on any computer that I am aware of. If you know of a specific model that supports that, let me know and I'll be happy to investigate. However, I really do not think such a thing exists.

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

The PRAM batteries have a smaller capacity than the ones I was considering. They only last a long time because the clock circuit uses a very very very small amount of energy. The runtime for those batteries powering a usb keyboard in standby would be less than three weeks.

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

Yes, ADB Busboy will work with combo devices that have both keyboard and pointing functionality. I probably won't have the media key functionality done in the v1.0 firmware, but it is one of the first things I would add as a firmware update. The firmware can be upgraded, so one can get new...

    More SE Problems

Ahh, ok. Yeah, that is probably the easiest way to get it working.

    $35 for what, exactly?

Mac SE For a Mac Plus

How many of you have them already says nothing about how easy they are to acquire now. There are almost never SE ethernet cards on ebay (especially ones with both pieces intact), whereas there are almost always localtalk ethernet bridges.

Mac SE For a Mac Plus

If SE ethernet cards were obtainable then I might agree. It's far easier to get a localtalk ethernet bridge. Does your SE ethernet card work in System 6?

Mac SE For a Mac Plus

I like Trash's idea. There's not really anything useful to put in the PDS slot of an SE. The Zip will make a fine "hard disk" for the Plus. You'll be able to copy the files over in one go instead of several times back and forth with floppies.

Mac SE For a Mac Plus

Plus for SE is a pretty fair trade. Plus keyboard is a little bit more valuable than an SE keyboard. A working SE/30 is worth at least twice as much as a Plus though.

    Replacement 30-pin SIMM Sockets?

Nice work, joethezombie. Those metal tabs looks so much easier to deal with than the stock sockets.
