The SE/30 as a Part of Classic Macs

One of the reasons I came to love retro computing was seeing how rapid things changed 30+ years ago. It's such a breath of fresh air learning about all the genuinely innovative feats of engineering that happened. Not to mention companies weren't afraid to make weird or bizarre products that...

Can't identify part that fell out of my SE/30

I second this. Only 2 of my 12 machines actually have it.

Mac Plus keyboard and mouse options

I haven't found anything besides the tindie and Tinkerboy adapter. I was hunting for 3 sets of the keyboards and mice, and the best I was able to do was about $100 per set. Definitely sucks right now, but at least replacement cables aren't too expensive.

    68040 40MHz SE/30 accelerators that don't use the PDS

Very interesting stuff and I appreciate you sharring your work! When I saw that you make new socketed accelerators for the SE/30 coupled with recently learning about Bolles grayscale card, I got inspired by the possibility. I might give a 4 card set up a go and see what happens in the future...

    68040 40MHz SE/30 accelerators that don't use the PDS

Does anyone know if there's was ever a 68040 40MHz accelerator board made for the SE/30 like the PowerCache where the CPU was swapped for a new daughter board instead of using the PDS slot? I'm interested in seeing how many upgrades I can theoretically map out for an SE/30 and if I could move...

Fan direction in a Classic/Classic Ii

I don't remember the exact orientation, but it should be blowing away from the debris catcher that the fan sits.

1988 Mac Classic won't boot up

Not really. Capacitors tend to slowly fail over time. The computer can still chug along just fine even as they are starting to leak. The biggest concern would be corrosion caused by the leaking capacitors, but a few weeks probably won't make a huge difference. The other possibility is the...

1988 Mac Classic won't boot up

That all sounds good to me! I'll send you a private message with the parts you'll want to order. You can reach back out through that message when you're ready to organize a meeting up.

1988 Mac Classic won't boot up

Just in case you're worried about shipping to Atlanta I'm up in the LA area, but if you ever go as far north as Orange County I could meet up for either a drop off or an inperson repair in the Huntington Beach area. I've restored a dozen Mac SEs, a couple Plus machines, a Max IIci, an SE/30...

    SE/30 External Cooling Option?

Zigzagjoe has it right. But on the off chance you want to swap out the fan already in the SE/30 anyway then you can use this Noctua fan kit that includes a molex connector that plug directly into the analog board of the computer without any soldering: https://a.co/d/gWMHPwl It uses the same...

    Unknown Macintosh SE Power Supply

Super interesting! Thanks for sharing the thread. I must have missed it when searching. I wonder if it's worth recapping and documenting for the future, or if I should just swap it for a new power supply.

    Unknown Macintosh SE Power Supply

I picked up a bunch of SE machines recently and I'm going through the process of recapping everything in them, but I stumbled across a power supply that I don't recognize at all. It's not branded in any way, and lacks the "Made in Singapore" tag that the Hitachi supplies have. Most...
