New member buys a macintosh se/30

Until those old RIFA X2 caps explode... Weak/failing caps may start to bulge before they leak and they could cause voltages to go out of tolerance which could ultimately cause damage to other components.

    IIci PSU shrink-tube optional?

Interesting, I guess the shrink tubing might be useful containing the mess those old RIFA safety caps make when they explode. :D I've never replaced any shrink tubing on any PS I've recapped.

    KnobsNSwitches Conquests

I would think there could be some risk of data loss or corruption using that switch box not being designed specifically for SCSI. However, if it works and you're not doing anything "mission critical" then it's a simple, useful solution.

I had a couple fail that I got through Shapeways last year. They were good enough to replace them at no charge. I notice now they're no longer selling them.

    Booting Mac Plus with scsi2sd...

Have you ever used another external SCSI device with the Plus? Do you have any other SCSI Macs you can test the SCSI2SD with?

    Booting Mac Plus with scsi2sd...

Are you providing power to the SCSI2SD? The Plus will not power the SCSI2SD. There are some photos of the settings I used in the utility program in my posts in the thread referenced above.

    About lubricating that floppy drive...

There probably is one, somewhere, written in Japanese. :)

    About lubricating that floppy drive...

I have used white lithium grease or light machine oil like 3-in-1 depending on what I had handy. Very light applications of either, it doesn't take much.

Yes, my 166 has that video-out card.

You might consider blue Loctite. If it doesn't hold it should be able to be removed without leaving residue.

    SE FDHD Restoration

Yes, chrome is complicated & toxic & expensive. Zinc, not so much! I have restored several vintage motorcycles so I've done a lot of rust removal and I've done research into zinc plating, although I haven't had enough of an excuse to do any plating myself yet.

    SE FDHD Restoration

Actually zinc plating is really safe & simple, there's many how-to vids out there. Yes, evaporust is great stuff, I have used it as well.

    SE FDHD Restoration

You can use oven cleaner to remove the rust (and the zinc coating) from the frame. If you're really ambitious you can get or make a zinc plating setup and re-plate the frame, although some silver paint or clear coat would be easier.

    3D modeling/rendering on 68K Macs

I have an original copy of that on floppy. Crude, but interesting. I'm pretty sure I have an old copy of KPT somewhere too. (Probably on my 8500.)

Vintage Benchmark Software that fits on 800k disk?

What OS version? I have run Macbench 1.0 and an old version of Norton Speedometer  (I don't remember the version) under 7.0.1 on my Novy-upgraded Plus. (Tattletech shows the same speed on mine too.)

Green stuff out of an SE/30 CRT?

Was the unit sealed in that tote? Probably condensation mixing with the battery juice. The green is from the board.

That's gotta be a Molex connector of some flavor. Close up photos of both plugs would help narrow it down.

how to remove cpu from Quadra 840 AV

Here's a thread that shows the empty socket. The CPU has to carefully come straight up to avoid bending/breaking any pins. Why to you want to remove the CPU?
