I'm not sure whether they are polymer, but I replaced all of the caps on the board (and the LCD). My PB100 went from not working at all to working great!
I'm curious about what people here think if the Pinecil (v2)? I have been using that for my (limited) recapping and I'm happy with it. I like the low cost and the convenient size. Just curious. Thanks!
Apologies--please disregard this thread. After starting up again from the 7.5.5 disk image, the RAM usage is now back down to 2,045K for the system software. I have no idea why. But, problem solved! :-)
I have an LC III running System 7.5.5 with 36 MB of RAM and the system software is using up ~80% of the RAM (30,699K, see first picture below). I'm running it off of a ZuluSCSI. However, when I boot off a disk image that uses 7.6.1, the system software uses only 2,640K of the RAM.
With the...
I want to upgrade the RAM on my Tangerine iBook G3 (it has a 64MB RAM card installed). I believe it uses PC66 3.3V 144-pin SO-DIMM cards, but I was wondering if I can use a PC133 3.3V 144-pin SO-DIMM, 256 MB RAM card in it?
Like this one:
eBay 256MB 144 pin PC133
Alternatively, do I need to...
Yes--here are the digikey part numbers/pages
Small connector (iBook cable):
Small connector header
Larger connector (LCD backlight):
Large connector header
And here is a link to the LCD backlight that I purchased from eBay:
LCD Backlight
Back again--after replacing the caps on the logic board and replacing the HD with an SSD, I went ahead and replaced the backlight with the LCD and it worked great! I decided that I didn't want to cut the wires for the connector coming from the iBook, so I made a small connector board with a...
I'm very interested in this modification--has this been stable in your iBooks? I have a Tangerine clamshell and would like to perform this modification. I purchased from eBay replacement LED backlights that have the same PCB and the diode is on order, so I'm ready to make this upgrade at the...
Regarding the flashing ?: I have 2 HDs from my 2 PB100s. I get the ? when either one is installed. Both of these HDs worked prior to the cleaning of this PB100. The PB does boot off of a floppy drive with the Disk Tools disk, but it does not see the HD. I also connected my ZuluSCSI Pico Slim to...
Update: on a whim, I decided to replace the capacitor on the CPU card, even though it had recently been recapped. And now, no more sad Mac!
Now I'm getting a question mark floppy disk when before it was booting just fine (before the washing). Well, I can try to narrow that down later.
I...
I'm having trouble solving a sad Mac error with one of my PB100s. It was running fine, but I decided to clean the logic board, CPU card, RAM card, and bottom case because the person I purchased it from on eBay apparently had a cat and I'm allergic to cats (there were cat hairs in the laptop)...
I am replacing the capacitors on a PB 520c and I am particularly concerned about the battery connection posts on the logic board. There is extensive corrosion on the connectors, with more on one side than the other. On the one that is worst, the corrosion is rock-hard and when I chip it off, the...
Impressive work!
Nube questions here--do you use a solder wick to remove the original chips? In addition to your preheater do you also use a hot air?
Finally, do you use drag-soldering to install the RAM chips and the CPU?
Thanks!
