Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I wonder what the dry disk is made of, I imagine it's a pretty common mild abrasive that could be done by hand with the drive open.
Mine died awhile back too but I suspect it's an alignment problem. Nonetheless I'm also interested in giving cleaning a try if anyone figures it out.
I have discovered....so very many interesting things!
I'm going to do a full writeup highlighting the fascinating parts of this card and it's ecosystem, but in case I don't get to that for awhile, here's a link to a hidden subsection of my site with setup instructions in case anyone else comes...
Since the 475 ROM has (mostly) Q650 compatibility, I can give this a go as well.
Do you have any examples of problems without resetting PRAM? I'm curious if some funky behavior I've had in the past matches.
Interestingly the PPC upgrade cards for Quadras also have this option in their card control panel, even in 7.1.2. I wonder if it controls the same nvram settings.
Definitely worth a dump, though the final LC ROM has a date on it of 9/24/90 and these were made after, so there's a good chance it has the final ROM on it and they're just pre-release burns.
Dumping it from a booted OS should be fine, you don't need a ROM programmer. If the checksum is...
Some of those SGI machines are really strange about nvram as well. My O2 will not boot if the battery has died as it's unable to detect scrambled nvram and wipe it.
Not sure if the Indy is the same, but if it is, there's a "recovery" jumper on the board which you'll need to set or it won't even...
I determined I just needed the latest version of ShrinkWrap (3.x) to unpack the 5.2.1 image. Fortunately it contains MediaNet 1.6.1!
I'll give it a go and make another post if there's anything interesting with this card.
Last year I started a thread here as well, though skimming through it I don't think there were any additional insights: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/mac-ii-hd20-support.46559/
I should have been clearer, sorry...I stumbled on those too but sadly they seem less "complete" and don't include the needed MediaNet configuration tooling. I thought they were just upgraders or needed dongles, but given that support page, maybe not! So perhaps the software is usable, just not...
The Lapis cards seem a little hodgepodge in my experience. There's a surprising number of part numbers and no mapping that I know of to specific model numbers, the ROM labels tend to be the same for different cards, and as @cheesestraws notes, they tend not to work with later OS, in my...
These work:

I recently picked up a Sonic MediaNet NuBus server board for a few dollars. Probably not very useful without a whole bundle of Sonic cards and clients, but I figured it'd be fun to play with for essentially free.
From what I've found, MediaNet has an interesting history that's spottingly...
