I am thinking of adding a 60mm fan in the baffle handle as Apple has designed two fan spaces there. In the Service Source for the G3 Server/MT, installation is optional for some PCI cards. It will not help in the cramped around the CPU and ram, but it can suck air just thru the vents on the side...
I recently pretty beefed up my beige G3 MT
- 768mb/ram
- Radeon 7000 - 32mb
- USB Card
- Sonnet Encore G4/1000
- Adaptec SATA Card with Kingston SATA SSD
Looking at the internals, the Sonnet Encore is huge and cable routing is a bit of a mess. I am running the unit oben on my bench at the...
I have a beefed-up G3 MT with a Sonnet Encore 1Ghz and a Radeon 7000 - in this case it is the original one and it works flawlessly under 9.2.2 with latest Radeon Drivers (Mac Radeon 9000-100). The OS is running in german, the drivers were US. But no conflicts so far. MacBench 5 showed a nice...
Beefed up my beige G3 Minitower. Now with Radeon 7000, Adaptec SATA Card and a Connect G4/1000 ZIF Upgrade. The SATA Card tops out at about 50mb/sec. That's nicely a bit more than 3x faster than the theoretical max. of the PIO MODE 4 IDE Bus on the beige G3s. The internal IDE Bus on the other...
It's a 3 row 50 Pin Sub-D. If this is really for a 8" floppy, I wonder what value a 1989 Nubus Controller for 8" floppies had for a Quadra 700 when even the venerable Apple II from a decade earlier already used 5.25" floppies :)
Here is the link to the original eBay auction...
I just saw a Quadra 700 auction on eBay Germany and the unit contains a SCSI card. But I have not found a lot about. It has a DB50 external connector and no internal connector at all. That would hint at a fast-SCSI 10mb/sec interface...
Does anyone have more infos?
I see comparable numbers like @GorfTheChosen in my G4/450 Sawtooth. SATA SSD on the UltraATA/66 bus peaks out at 58mb/sec while the same SSD on the SATA Card peaks out at 71mb/sec. In essence, the Adapter SATA card inside the G4 will move to the G3 b&w where it makes much more sense as it will...
The Bus speed on CPU cards based system (tsunami - incl. power computing and umax 6 slot units, tnt and the power computing catalyst) is set by the CPU card itself. There are two types of those cards: those with hardcoded bus speed and those with adjustable bus speeds. The max bus speed of the...
hey @obsolete any news here. I ´ve seen a few of this VIA based SATA/ATA combos cards on flea markets in the last weeks and making them a Mac card might be a nice solution for my beige G3 with 9.22. and 10.2 (the latter doesn't support my adapter SATA card).....
the spinning HD was only a 8gb drive - so that should have not be the problem. I have tried again with another drive and a 7gb Partition for OS X 9 and 10.3. same issue……
Tried my luck with 10.3 today. Installed a fresh 9.2.2 on the original 7gig HD, used XPostFacto 4 to start the installation from the Panther CD 1. All works well until the installer reboots (prior to continuing with CD 2). Then, the OS 9 and X systems are corrupted. A happy face appears and the...
I´ve now installed the card in beige G3 Tower / 300. But here, I am running into a problem.
Mac OS 9.2.2 boots from the internal spinning HD and I can access the SSD. FWB HDT shows almost 50mb/sec maximum transfer. A huge improvement over the onboard 16mb/sec IDE channel.
Mac OS X 10.2.8...
Per hardware developer notes, Catalyst, TNT, Tsunami etc. only support 5v EDO or FPM. 3.3v has a different keying - it will not physically fit in a 5v socket. The Tanzania (Motorola Starmax or Apple 4400) are the only 3.3v EDO compatible machines afaik.
I recently got two acrylic ADC 20“ cinema displays. One is discolored but more or less ok - albeit dim. The other one still works but shows the short-short-long error code (backlight issue).
Changing the backlight was described here...
- Only 3.3V EDO will work (5400, 5500 and 6400, 6500 use 5v FPM or EDO)
- right, not easy as most ebay listings for 4400 or Motorola StarMax and other Tanzania Clones unfortunately show only 16 or 32mb
I count 24 NEC D41264C 4bit x 64k dual ported VRam chips - 768kb VRam. I guess that‘s not enough for 24bit even at 640x480, you need 921kb or simply 1mb.
