Well, I’m stumped and have spent way too long and tossed way too many CD-Rs in attempt at this. All I want to do is get an OS9 disc bootable (shouldn’t be that hard, right)? I have a 12” PowerBook G4 I’m using as my burner device, running 10.4. For images, I’m using an OEM 9.2.1 install CD, with...
Small update: I removed the buffers on each end, and the RAM IC closest to the power supply connector. All traces and pads in good shape, no breaks. I installed a new RAM chip and reinstalled the old buffers. The board was quite clean and so were the chips - no green corrosion visible to my eye...
I think this will be my next step. If that doesn’t do it, I’ll source a new buffer and RAM chip from a different board. I haven’t ever seen the buffers fail, but I guess anything can happen.
I agree it’s ugly in that area with the solder mask missing, but the resistor is in spec and making good...
Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, the power supply is good. I am using a picoATX, but have also tried a standard IIsi PSU.
I'm using an Apple M1212 CRT, so no issues with SOG compatibility.
I've been scratching my head on this one. It's a later rev. IIsi logic board (made in Ireland) that I just finished recapping. After an ultrasonic clean, the board looks really quite nice physically. Now, it will power up, but I've noticed the chime is delayed by a second or two compared to...
I finally got some time to do a little testing with my beta adapter. Monitor I am using is a Samsung SyncMaster 171N. I've attached a screenshot of the specification for those interested. The following are tested working well:
IIci - switch settings 1 4 7 8 - comp sync LED only
IIsi - switch...
If you’re using a BlueSCSI v2, you need an .ini file to get things working properly. Here’s the info from the GitHub repo:
Requires some special configuration. Go to https://ini.bluescsi.com and click Mac Plus to download a special .ini configuration file, place it in the root of your SD card.
I had a similar issue, and a replacement SCC was the fix. I determined all traces were making their intended connections, so chip replacement was the next logical thing to do in my mind.
I have not tried anything else with this card just yet. Got too frustrated and put it away for a while. Do keep us posted whether or not the newer drivers make a difference for you. Many times, my system would lock up or bomb right at the load of the Sonnet extension.
Hi all, wondering if anyone knows the part number for the 800x600 panel used in the 5300ce? Someone at some point swapped mine for a 640x480 panel and of course it doesn’t work how it should. It’s odd because the rest of the machine is still a ce model. Any tips would be appreciated!
I've had this issue so many times when working on IIsi machines. It's really really frustrating to track down. The only theories I have that may have an effect are the cleanliness of the PSU and logic board itself.
On one machine, I found that some electrolyte fluid had made its way under the...
For some reason I'm just seeing this thread today - great work. I also have a 5300c with broken hinges and plan to give your files a shot later. Thanks for posting!
I might be wrong, but I don't think those three chips in the startup circuit are connected to the ROMs in any way. George, can you explain in more detail your fix for this problem?
Are these tray or caddy drives you tried lens cleaning on? I too have a stack of bad tray loading drives. All accept discs and will spin up but never read anything. I took one apart once looking for leaking caps but didn't find anything of note. I guess the caddy drives are more reliable over time?!
