    Looking for Apple Network Software Installers prior to 1.4.4

    Yes, pretty much so, but thanks, "24 bit", I appreciate it! If there isn't anything called "FDDITalk" or similar on this particular DevCd, then October '93 could be removed from the checklist, together with November '93 that I checked myself. As to the 1991 disks, it's better to start with...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    doug3 et al, What about adding SCSI Manager to your ROMs, just like it's made in the newer machines? I don't know whether it could be done and how that SCSI Manager operates, but here's the story behind this idea. Related to another thread about SCSI benchmarking utilities and drive speed...

    80 pin -> 50 pin SCSI adapter in SE/30

    See links I provided in my posts :-) Feel free to delete this post afterwards. ___________________________________________________________________________ edit by jt: Thanks for the face-save offer there, ojfd! But, nah! Let this stand as an object lesson for other -lazy-- . . . erm ...

    80 pin -> 50 pin SCSI adapter in SE/30

    Follow up. What I did, when I needed to put modern UW SCA drive on narrow bus was: 1. Installed this type of Narrow to Wide adapter directly on motherboard 2. Installed this type of SCA to UW adapter on the drive. 3. Replaced Narrow cabling with Ultra Wide one and used cable that had UW...

    80 pin -> 50 pin SCSI adapter in SE/30

    How do you know that it has "passive" termination? Does it have several terminator resistor blocks like that black SIL package at position RN1 in the picture? Yours look to me more like this one (no terminator resistors) The more I think about it, the more it looks that your problem might...

    80 pin -> 50 pin SCSI adapter in SE/30

    Wrong! Mac itself (initiator) is always ID 7. Internal drive that consists System folder traditionally is set to ID 0. So, Brooklyn, if this drive is your only drive, no jumpers on ID pins are needed. BUT, unless your SCA adapter has onboard terminators, you have a problem. SCA drives do not...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    I can't speak for dougg3, but for me that would mean total re-design. Time=$, you know. Besides, you can make your plexi box just a tad larger than PCB, so that USB and DB-9 will line up with the outer surface of the walls nicely and it will look just fine. Others might want to put the PCB in...

    SE/30 booting off CF success

    Since you so nicely summarized everything, it seems that you have a plan on how to address the issues outlined above. Care to share the details of it with the rest of the forum readers?

    SE/30 booting off CF success

    One should not expect wonders from an old NCR 53C80 SCSI chip. http://support.apple.com/kb/TA29470?viewlocale=en_US

    Looking for Apple Network Software Installers prior to 1.4.4

    I've spent last two days researching on subject of Apple's Network Software Installers and their release dates by looking at various Network Resources (ResEdit file) creation dates. This is what I was able to find out so far: 1.2 - 17. Mar '92 1.3 - 22. Nov '92 1.3.2 - 3. Jun '93 1.3.3 - 22...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    Congratulations, dougg3, very nice job! Fixing 400+ errors manually indeed takes some time. Yes, skip them. I am 100% sure that your board will work as it stands now. I thin'k it's very good and very educational to that you're publishing progress of your design, especially for casual reader...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    It is OK - I would do it. I come from school where more ground is always good, but, as I've said before, it might not matter at all in your particular case Board looks nice, btw.

    Another IIci ROM hack

    Hey, guys, RELAX! As long as you don't have to deal with high clock rates, transmission lines, ground bounce, mixed signal, clock coupling into sensitive analog nodes, thermal drift and all that sort of stuff, I think your boards will work just fine the way you've designed them and it will not...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    dougg3, to confuse you even further, here are some more papers on power supply bypassing. http://www.ti.com/lit/an/scaa048/scaa048.pdf http://www.ti.com/lit/an/scba007a/scba007a.pdf but that's ENOUGH! :-) TIP: try using different size of capacitors - i.e.1206 instead of 0805 if you need...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    No problem, but try not to overdo your design, if it works, then it is ok as it is. I just thought that, if you route your VCC as traces and leave GND issues out for a moment it might turn out as simpler design. There are some, but I don't think these apply to your board. I'll see what papers...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    dougg3, you mean the whole top layer is connected to + 5V? Not that it's wrong.... it's rather unusual. Normally one dedicates the whole layer to VCC when there are 3 or more layers available. When there are only two layers availble I usually route +VCC as traces, dedicate one side to GND and...

    Another IIci ROM hack

    dougg3, It looks to me that some work still needs to be done around IC2 (SOIC package?). What is your setting for copper pour back-off or something? I would increase it a bit. It all depends, of course, how good your PCB manufacturer is. If the traces are too close to each other or too close...

    IIfx/CD 5 year tune-up . . .

    Trash80toHP_Mini, I have some other tools that check slots and get additional info off the cards. Two are utilities by 2nd Wave and one is by Apple. If these might help, PM me. This is how they look, when started on G4/OS 9.2.2

    Farallon Ethernet Card Installer 2.3

    Cosmo. It appears that yours is PCI card, but that installer is for NuBus cards. Does it look like this one http://tinyurl.com/bsyc2zo I did a bit of research, and it looks that Farallon is long gone and MacOS drivers are really hard to find. The only place I could find is this one, so go...
