I'd like the idea that I can get bug fixes for my $100 niche computing device!
And maybe patched sdxc support for when that becomes the standard
(not saying im going to have a 300gb scsi, but if they're cheap I usually buy microsds in bluk)
I'd like the SCSI2SD if the developer hadn't dropped all firmware updates to the old version in place of the newer verison, which isn't even that much of an improvement.... :(
JB weld is great, I always see if I can get away with model strength superglue first and if not I move onto the JB, works well for the interior mounts in macs.
Ah yeah totally forgot, thanks tjjq, there's also the two microswitches on the front, you want to clean those (I just put 99% alc on them and pressed them 100 times). Wouldn't hurt to reflow the solder joints.
If those dont work the drive will never think there's a disk inside and things get...
I agree with evil. Just to show it can be done doing a "basic" version with the things EC said would be more than enough for me to pay $200+ for. It would make the design easier also.
Mabye make a poll?
Tbh I think that if you're using a classic mac you're not really looking for vga video. I mean the display is there. I'd make a difference if it was the only video out but ehhh (bit banging vga isnt that hard though :p )
I'd focus on getting the entire thing working as an accelerator then...
Tbh I've fixed 18/20 of my bad floppy drives by cleaning the heads with 90 ish percent alcohol.
Just be gentle with a qtip. Any small amount of dirt can cause read errors.
Se/30's are pretty silent EMF noise wise. Could be a bad flyback transformer or a coil somewhere, those are really the only components that cause whine.
Could also be bad grounding, pop it open and make sure the back is grounded and everything is on correctly.
Always good to have a look at...
:) Setting Up a Cross Compile Environment for Mac68K NetBSD :)
In this post I'm going to outline how to create and use a virtual environment to use a really fast PC to make programs for a really slow Mac. ;)
1: Set up your favorite VM with XXX settings (read on their site, I'm going to...
Printed in about an hour. Screw holes were a tad too small for the standard Macintosh hdd screws, so I got a bit of fracturing on the part, but nothing major, perhaps make them a touch biggger. Other than that works fine. ;)
I use gallium based solder becuase it stays liquid for around 30 seconds. Helps to remove chips that are stuck down when I don't want to pull out the hot air setup.
It looks like you might have popped out some of the via's when you were desoldering. :-/
Obv its a bit hard to tell with the glare, but you could always see if you could solder down 2 points to hold down the ram and reconnect it manually
with 30-32 awg wire, because its only a 16 pin dip so...
Sure Im interested, hell I'd easily pay $300. Could always meddle around with programming the fpga myself.
I like the idea of using cheap off the shelf stuff like the ESP, becuase even a accelerator board like this, pretty much anything modern is faster than a 68k processor :p .
Tbh if you...
Old drives have a bad habit of running up once and then never spinning up again.
2 things you can try. Take the drive apart and clean the gunk out of the spindle.
Or give it a few hard taps with a mallet/screwdriver (also might have to stick it in the freezer for a hour).
Drives dead anyway...
Hey all, trying to sell of large numbers of excess mac's and that means fixing large numbers of macs.
Other than having not a single Classic work yet it's been pretty fun.
I brought out another 2 Se's today after the ones I sold to fix, and the 2nd had a 00000001 0000FFFF error.
And a Se/30...
So, you want to host a website on your circa 1989 Macintosh?
I hope you're ready for :O , because making a 30 year old chunk of hardware work reliably with modern networks is a huge pita. :p
What you'll need:
A fast mac, this basically restricts you to a SE with a accelerator or a SE/30...
