There was a thing called "macipgw" which seems to have gone to oblivion.
I use my own program which does the job on my local network and runs on NetBSD. I wrote a daemon program which does DDP on one side and SLIP on the other.
MacTCP manages to talk TCP/IP over LocalTalk by packaging each IP packet as a DDP packet and sending it to a "MacIP Gateway". Unless you have some component on your network doing the DDP to IP exchange, nothing is going to either see or return to you DDP encapsulated IP packet...

One of the dumb things they did was provide a POSIX subset but no pthreads or BSD sockets API. In the age of the FOSS and the internet, not providing BSD sockets was suicidal.

Yup, video encoding is fantastic with an 8008, and even better with a 4004.
Also, don't even consider using a Quad G5, because it doesn't say Intel on the chip.
Network installs work for most classic macs. As long as you can boot with media that has appleshare client and network drivers, and your server has the files in the appriopriate layout.
For the classic Apple monitors, the sense lines are only sampled at power-on time. So fiddling with the switches without power cycling won't give you the "true picture".
