Two actual SE/30 boards before me have a current limiting device, F1 in the ADB power net. In one instance it is a fuse in the form of an axial lead orange plastic cylinder similar in size with a 1/4 watt resistor, in...
Ah, well, perhaps it will be of use to someone else then. The PLW models do require much maintenance. I find I need to have several donor units on hand just to keep several printers alive, and the toner cartridges can get dirty at a blink of an eye...
Newer technology higher resolution laser...
Some problems with the Personal Laserwriter series printers may be resolved by the following:
General preventative maintenance on a newly acquired vintage PLW printer:
1. Pull the cover and inspect for critters, dead or alive.
2. Outside but not in sunlight (dawn or dusk best), remove toner...
I saw somewhere that DEC relabeled and sold some model of IOTech SCSI to GPIB as IEZ 11. This may or may not be functionally the same as the MacSCSI unit that you want to program. But in the hope that it is the same or close, see...
Have thick gloves handy in case the dents have damaged safety devices and the battery gets hot and you want to remove it. See Table 8.0.1 in http://www.duracell.com/OEM/Pdf/others/TECHBULL.pdf (502 KB download). Even if the battery seems ok it could be internally dented and short later. But...
My guess would be that the original designs charged at between an initial C/2 or C/4 rate (taking 2 to 4 hours to charge) then switched either to a slow trickle rate or stopped charge altogether. The trickle rate (If any) is probably between .01C to .03C where C is the spec'd capacity of the...
Likely a series-parallel connection of 1.2V conventional cells. Two instances of what you were expecting, connected in parallel. See the handy reference at http://support.apple.com/kb/TA32393?viewlocale=en_US for total capacity of the pack.
The white stuff growing out of the battery seals is...
I've seen similar gaps when the analog board at the top/front slips out of the retaining slot of the front bezel just as the assembly is being closed. If your situation turns out to be this, it is easily set right when you get that long torx driver. :)
If the 5xx series battery intelligence is using learned voltage settings as a way to estimate time remaining on a battery, then forget what I said about hacking the shunt. That has a chance of working only if the intelligence works by trying to keep track of mAH flowing in and out of the cells...
Thread spec by measuring a sample:
Size #8 USA standard self tapping screw
Standard USAS B18.6.4-1966
Type AB:
18 threads per inch, right hand thread
Major/minor diameters .163 OD/.119 root (inches)
standard 60 degree thread form (there exist designed for plastic custom metal screws with a...
So there I am trying to answer something tomlee59 said on recelled batteries sometimes working and sometimes not. Since I have some complicated stuff to get straight I quote him and go thru many, many, many preview cycles to get it right so I do not to have to ask someone later to please...
Best I can tell the controller boards are all custom but the heart of the intelligence is in chips that can be custom or commercial parts. The intelligent battery controller in the Lombard/Pismo battery packs has some Apple programmed values in a serial memory chip that are used by the...
Often the lower rated capacity choices will have lower internal impedance, and more reliable internal construction (less likely to short if dropped, or short due to aging). During the engineering development cycle there is a battery evaluation group that struggles to rank the cell choices, both...
Two ideas, both untried...
1. Start with fully externally trickle charged cells, see if by repeated usage cycles if the proprietary intelligent chip SC406346DW will "learn" that there is more capacity than the default internal programming. Probably not, but some chips may be able to adapt...
These guys have thought about the problem some for RS-232 (not Mac, uses multiple handshake lines) and software controlled handshakes: http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/en/an/AN827.pdf
So the level conversion is done, but other Mac issues remain.
I've also done some digital oscilloscope/FFT work...
I just noticed that Larry Pina does, at least for something very similar (separate, not composite video). See Macintosh Repair and Upgrade Secrets, First Edition 1990 page 169 for the 128K to Mac Plus and page 297 for the SE and SE/30. The circuit probably can be further improved by...
My untested card has the identical connection in the same positions as shown in your high resolution photo. The connection on mine appears to be a bridge of thin tinned copper wire inserted alongside the connector pins and into the soldered plated thru holes.
