Very nice! Sounds like you have all the parts you need to get the job done. That will be a very fun project indeed! Those 400k drives are so much fun once you get them running smoothly. Love the sound!

    PB145B’s finds

Yep, works great and is actually very quiet. It has that signature Rodime “squeak” to it which I love. I will say though, the Rodime RO652 mechanism used in the 20 Plus drives seems to be among the more reliable Rodimes. I’ve seen a fair few of these still in working condition. I have an...

    PB145B’s finds

I’m so excited about this! I finally got a Rodime 20 plus hard drive to use with my Mac Plus! It was untested but fired right up and booted into System 6.0.4! Really love the look of it! It matches the Mac perfectly and that Rodime logo on the front is just classic! I have always considered...

Was yours upgraded to a 512? Do you still have the 400k floppy? Always curious to see how far these were upgraded back then.

Having some good fun with the 128k! I really do love this thing despite its limitations. I’m so happy that I actually have one now. This one’s definitely a permanent member of my collection!

    Macintosh 128k Revival!

Oh, that’s great to know! Thanks for the info. That will be of great help in my search for sure! :)

    Macintosh 128k Revival!

Oh great! I’ll have to try those measurements out. Good to know! I need to actually check the Pina guides out. I actually never have, which is kind of embarrassing considering how long I’ve been fiddling with compacts! Oh yeah, I meant to make a post in my “finds” thread about that but never...

    Macintosh 128k Revival!

Thank you! I always struggle to settle on what the “correct” screen size is. Even in pictures from back in the day it seemed to vary from machine to machine. For example, in that classic pic where Steve Jobs is leaning over three Macintoshes, the one in the middle has different screen geometry...

I haven’t tried on the external yet, but the WiFi was actually very easy to get working for me with the PowerBook version in my PB180 running 7.1. I want to see next if I can get a Plus or SE online with the external BlueSCSI!

Got this a few weeks ago but just got around to building it! After trying the PowerBook version out I was officially hooked, and this external version does not disappoint either! What an amazing product, affordable and easy to use. Even has WiFi! And the SD transfer utility has FINALLY given me...

    PB145B’s finds

Yeah, I read about the fan replacement program Apple offered. I'll definitely hang onto the fan for sure. I fully intended to leave this fan in here, but the sound is just unbearable. I was never at all bothered by the slight sound of the later fans, but this is awful! Yep, it's really nice. It...

    PB145B’s finds

Got this little gem recently! I do love my SEs. It’s a true 1987-built Macintosh SE! All original except for the hard drive I think. Because it’s a non-Apple branded Miniscribe. Being an early SE I strongly suspect it had a Rodime drive originally, which I actually have one of and might put...

    Macintosh 128k Revival!

Yes, double sided disks will work fine! It will just use the bottom side. Actual single sided 3.5” disks are very hard to find nowadays. Wish you luck on getting the floppy working! Before inserting any new disks, definitely clean the head carefully with a cotton swab and alcohol if you haven’t...

Good points! We may never know the full story, but since the 140/170 were the first fully Apple-designed true laptops, I just tend to think of those as the “originals.” And since the 170 has almost the same screen as the backlit Portable, it really makes it seem like it’s the direct successor to it.

Thanks! Yeah, the 180 is one of my favorites for sure. I was always under the impression the 140/170 designs (which the 180 is just a slight improvement of) were older than the Sony-designed 100, but I could be wrong? Either way, the 100, 140 and 170 were all released at the same time, so I...

    Macintosh 128k Revival!

All back together! Took a screenshot of System 2.0 running to show that it’s indeed still a “128k” machine! The CRT could still use some more adjustment, but for now I’m just so glad it’s running so well! The case could use a bit of cleaning too. I will say, this restoration went quite...

Microsoft Word 1.0 For Macintosh Master Disk Image Needed!

The file “type” variable had somehow gotten erased (likely due to the file being zipped), so the Mac insisted that it was just a “document.” Changing the file type to a Diskcopy file with ResEdit allowed it to function properly as a disk image!
