Great find! I LOVE my original Mac II. I use it all the time and it's rock solid, I'm disappointed that I waited until just this year to get one actually. I was missing out! I really like the PC-like form factor if the first-gen IIs. The overall build quality of them is just excellent too.
Oh...
I will probably end up getting one of each on the ESProfile! SCSI would be a cool option for MacWorks too! I thought they looked pretty simple from the pics I’ve seen so perhaps building one could be doable.
Thank you! Yes, I’m very grateful that my Widget is working so well.
Great to know GEM...
Thanks. It’s a big machine but I wouldn’t call it huge. I’m very used to my IBM PCs and stuff and it really doesn’t consume any more desk space than one of those. And yes, VERY heavy. Definitely the heaviest computer I own I think.
I would love to try that!
Thank you!
Yes, absolutely! I...
Thank you! Yes I always preferred the 2/10. They are easier to find, have no battery pack and the internal hard drive is also something I really like.
I do feel quite lucky that mine immediately started working once I got it spinning! It’s such a cool sounding drive with the little squeaky...
I finally made it happen, I now own an Apple Lisa! This has been my "holy grail" for many years now. I ended up getting a 2/10 which is the one I always wanted. I love the lack of batteries and the Widget hard drive! And it is probably the most common of the Lisa variants.
Here it is in its...
It really depends on the who's looking and what they're willing to pay. As far as general 128k value, I see them go for $150 to over $1000 depending on condition, functionality and completeness (box, accessories etc). For me, an untouched 128k is a must have for a Mac collection. I got lucky...
I mean, to be fair I have used my 180 for as much as 4 or 5 hours at a time. But if the machine isn’t experiencing much tunneling after an hour then it probably won’t get much worse in the coming hours either.
Congrats on buying a 180! 5 hours is a good start I think. I don't think I'd go longer than that on the first run. I would imagine even at the same temp that these screens can only take so much heat before potential damage occurs.
Definitely though, my advice is to NEVER go above 212F, even...
I’ve always loved this HD icon that the Micronet utility included, and now that I that have an actual large Mac II I feel justified in using it!
Ignore the screen artifacts, that’s just the camera. This CRT looks exceptionally good in person now that it’s adjusted properly!
Wow, I finally ran an actual benchmark on the new drive and look at the difference in the disk speed rating compared to the original Quantum Q250 (right) and the new CDC/Seagate (left)!
Ignore all of the other tests, I didn’t run those again because nothing else has changed since then other...
I don't think the 5.25" HH ones like mine have that issue, but I'm not 100 percent sure. The Quantum Q250s like the one that came in this Macintosh II DO have that issue though! I fixed mine before it even started so it should be good but I've seen plenty of cases where a slider ends up ripped...
The Macintosh II got a much-needed hard drive upgrade today! Found a really good deal on a Seagate ST2209N, which is a rebranded CDC Wren V 94211-209. The drive holds about 160MB formatted.
These are very nicely built drives and very high performance for the era. Apple actually used this...
The IIci is definitely one I’d like to get someday. They still seem relatively easy to find and fairly affordable also. It’s is a nice form factor definitely!
I agree, I’ll probably never use all of those slots! Cool to have them though.
As for the size, I have a bunch of IBM PCs, XTs and...
That definitely makes sense!
As @Juror22 pointed out later in this thread, I have the original Apple HMMU, not the 68851 PMMU.
Yeah I do see a lot of battery-bombed IIfx machines and boards. Very sad!
Thanks! Yeah the Mac II was definitely a massive change for the Macintosh platform! Man, $5...
