This is a front bezel for a Dat unit, for a 840av. Arrived 2 days ago, it was broken during the shipment.
For now, I tried a cyanoacrylate glue. It seems strong, I need to check when in the right place.
As you can understand from the title, it has happened to me several times to damage the lateral wings of the front bezels of various macs (series 840, 8100, etc) simply by disassembling them and not doing any particular force. I think the reason is the type of plastic used for the components...
Not Apple for sure, but I saw them once back in time, they were made for the Macintosh II/IIx/IIfx serie. Did you check if there is a mark somewhere on the stands?
You are right, I was only interested to buy one in order to "complete" a 840av (I found the appropriate front bezel), using it for backup purposes with Retrospect.
I usually discharge flybacks to the ground of my home electrical system. First, I've never felt secure to discharge them on the metal chassis; second, a lot of old tv's from the fifties/sixties were built in wood/plastic, no metal frames.....
I don't thinks so. This is an old tantalum cap, they are very well known to be spicy electronic little friends. Use a valid substitute, especially with higher voltage rate (25volts) as someone already mentioned earlier.
